THE POSITION

Washington County's Finance Department is looking for an Accountant II to join our team!

The Opportunity
The Accountant II is responsible for performing a variety of professional-level accounting and financial duties to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the County's financial records. This includes account reconciliations, financial reporting, cost allocation, fixed asset maintenance, and supporting the development and testing of financial systems. The position plays a critical role in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), financial analysis, and compliance with applicable regulations and accounting standards.
The Accountant II works under the supervision of the Chief Accountant and collaborates with both the Budget and Treasury teams to ensure effective financial oversight.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Technical Skills:
- Experience with preparing financial reports, reconciliations, and managing fixed assets.
- Proficient in Oracle Financial Systems and experience with ERP transitions (e.g., Workday).
- Strong understanding of GAAP, GASB, and governmental accounting principles.
- Proficiency in Excel, including advanced formulas (i.e. IF, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, COUNTIF, etc.), creating and managing tables, PivotTables/PivotCharts and financial analysis tools.

- Expertise in account reconciliation and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for complex financial transactions.
- Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proactive problem-solver with the ability to train and support staff on financial policies.

Education and Experience
A Bachelor's Degree in finance or accounting; AND Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience performing budgetary or financial analysis, or auditing.

- Minimum Qualification Review: HR will screen applications for MQs after the posting closes on February 2nd, 2025.
- Subject Matter Expert Review: Your SME answers may be evaluated and scored by a panel of subject matter experts. Your total score for this examination will affect your placement on the eligible list (a list of candidates eligible for interviews). This process will begin after February 9th, 2025.
- Panel Interview(s): Panel interviews will be scheduled for the top candidates who successfully pass the initial screening step. First round interviews will be conducted the week of February 16th, 2025.
- Conditional Offer of Appointment: Human Resources will conduct a salary analysis for the successful candidate(s) and extend an offer of appointment.
- Post-Offer Check: The successful candidate will undergo a background check.
- Start Date: A start date will be determined after all conditions of employment have been met.
