Under supervision by the Desert Reserves Director, the custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the SBABDRC facilities and landscaped paths, supply inventory and restocking, and administrative tasks. Duties include but are not limited to: cleaning floors, bathrooms, kitchen, fixtures, windows, and furniture; dusting, interior trash and recycling removal, laundry, and additional tasks as necessary to ensure all facilities are maintained at a high level of cleanliness; basic outdoor maintenance and ground checks (irrigation, HVAC, etc.); answer phones, basic
computer skills (online trainings, time sheet, reservation system, etc.). Responsibilities may include weekend work and occasional after-hours emergency responses.


Your Role on the Team

The UC Irvine natural reserves and field stations serve to advance research, education, and public stewardship and are a vehicle for UC faculty, staff, and student scholarship. They are part of a larger network of the University of California Natural Reserve System (UCNRS) (https://ucnrs.org). The Steele/Burnand Anza-Borrego Desert Research Center (SBABDRC) (https://anzaborrego.ucnrs.org/) is situated on a 78 acre University owned reserve adjacent to Anza-Borrego State Park and participates in a Cooperative Agreement with State Parks and the Anza-Borrego Foundation. The 12,400 square foot Research Center includes a classroom, laboratory, four individual researcher/instructor bedrooms, dormitories for up to 24 people, a kitchen and dining room, offices, patios and public event space.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $20.05- $22.15 (Hourly).

Required:

  • Communicate in English with staff, supervisor, and users.
  • Ability to follow, model and promote conduct that adheres to the University of California Principles of Community.
  • Ability to use cleaning equipment.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow instructions.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals. (will train)
  • Report damages. (will train)
  • Willingness to support the mission of the UC Natural Reserve System. (will train)
  • Computer skills and ability to learn basic computer programs. (will train)
  • 1-3 years Custodial Experience

Special Conditions:

  • May include work on weekends. May include occasional visits to fill in or work with custodian at other field station (Burns Pinon Ridge Reserve).
