The ideal Candidate hired will be under general direction, performs skilled work related to the full range of building maintenance and repair of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems of Agency facilities; and performs related duties as required.

Examples of Duties

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this position:

  • Perform general repairs to buildings including building forms, frames and shelves; repair/patch walls, windows, doors, and roofs; tile floors; and paint the exterior and interior buildings.
  • Repairs and maintains electrical systems, including installing lights, bulbs, switches, conduit, intercoms, and overhead electric doors.
  • Repairs and maintains plumbing systems, including water and steam pipes, water coolers, sewage, and landscape irrigation systems.
  • Repairs and maintains mechanical systems, including pumps, motors, and air conditioning and heating systems.
  • Repairs office furniture and equipment.
  • Performs welding as required.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and buildings.
  • Uses a variety of hand tools and power equipment as required; cleans and maintains tools and equipment.
  • Coordinates with service vendors for contracted repairs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides work direction to others, but does not have direct performance appraisal responsibility for them.

The Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A minimum of four (4) years building maintenance experience, with specific experience in all major job functions. Formal training in all major job skills, either through technical training courses or an apprenticeship is desirable.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
Good knowledge of:
  • Materials, tools and methods used in general building repair, maintenance, and construction.
  • Basic electrical theory and practices.
  • Basic plumbing principles and techniques.
  • Basic motor and HVAC inspection and repair principles and techniques.
  • Safe working practices related to all assigned job duties.
Ability to:
  • Perform a variety of skilled building maintenance functions.
  • Safely use hand and power tools.
  • Established and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Perform basic arithmetical calculations.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Read and understand policies, procedures and Agency regulations.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Class C California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
Tools:
  • Must provide all necessary hand tools.

Candidates will be screened for relevant qualifying experience that consists of an evaluation of education and experience. The most competitively qualified candidateswill be invited to participate in the selection process. The selection process may include a combination of written, performance, and oral examinations.
