Carolinas Hospitalists Group is looking for an APP to join the hospitalist team at our Pineville location.

  • Full time position with a 7 days on / 7 days off schedule
  • Hours: 12pm - 10pm (swing shift)
  • Responsibilities: Admissions and help with evening rapid responses if needed
  • No call but shifts may include cross cover responsibilities
  • 100% inpatient adult medicine
  • Working side by side with several physicians and APPs with a team based approach
  • Experience strongly preferred

Position Qualifications:

* Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program. Must be Acute Care NP or Physician Assistant. Current license to practice as a NP or PA in North Carolina. Current prescriptive privileges and DEA license required. BLS for healthcare provider from AHA required.

* Nurse practitioners are required to have a master's degree or doctorate in nursing practice with ACNP, AGACNP board certification .

* Physician Assistants with certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred. Current or pending CAQ certification preferred.

* Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking and interpersonal skills when working in a fast paced, high acuity work environment. Able to perform thorough history and physical assessment. Able to work with multidisciplinary team.

Job Summary

Provides services with focused concentration on a single system caring for acute and chronically ill patients. Includes clinic-based and/or hospitalized patients. Schedule consisting of a mixed rotation of shifts covering weekdays, nights, swing, holidays and weekends (50%-90% of FTE Includes weekend and/or night coverage).

Essential Functions

  • Performs initial and periodic medical history, physical examinations, and daily assessments.
  • Records findings of examinations, assessments and plan of care.
  • Performs minor medical and/or surgical procedures.
  • Writes appropriate prescriptions and administers medications.
  • Orders and interprets daily laboratory and radiology examinations.
  • Determines treatment plan for patient.
  • Documents all patient encounters, records observations, interventions, and actions in a medically appropriate manner on the patient's medical record.
  • Acts as a patient advocate.
  • Assesses own practice needs, as well as those of the other APPs of the health care team, and develops methods to meet those needs.
  • Assists in the review and development of clinical and operational policies and procedures in the specialty of practice.
  • Serves as a liaison to collaborating physicians, patients, nurses, staff and others as necessary.
  • Coordinates annual performance reviews in collaboration with assigned supervising physicians. This includes assuring compliance with all aspects of licensure and credentialing for assigned APPs.
  • Attends, participates, contributes to and represents APPs in the assigned areas of responsibility on group/practice, facility or system-wide committees and/or meetings.

Physical Requirements

Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Must speak English fluently and in understandable terms. Must possess intact sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and finger dexterity. Ability to react and perform in stressful situations.

Education, Experience and Certifications.

Must have or be eligible for a DEA license. Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state one works. 5 years experience required in specific specialty; management/supervisory experience preferred. Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in SC required. BLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA required with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice

Nurse Practitioner

Master's Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required. License to practice as a Registered Nurse required. Certification in the area of practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required. ACNP, AGACNP, AGNP, PNP, or PNP-AC board certification preferred based population served.

Physician Assistant

Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required; Master's Degree preferred. Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.
