Overview
The Product Manager is responsible for the development and/or maintenance of product(s). The associate will continuously assess market needs, considering future technology, competitor products/services and regulatory environment. The Product Manager synthesizes data from a variety of sources to monitor product performance including profitability, sales projections, client satisfaction levels and operational efficiency. The associate will proactively provide product updates and ensures informed decisions. In addition, they are the product expert and serves as liaison among functional areas within the organization & externally for all product-related issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Four (4) years of experience in product development/management/analysis required. Health insurance industry preferred.
- The ability to synthesize data into information and provide recommendations for action. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated successful project management experience with the ability to develop and execute project plans, manage time effectively and stay organized.
- Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with both internal and external customers. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work creatively to develop win-win outcomes.
- Result-oriented leadership skills.
- Excellent written and public speaking/group presentation skills for all levels. Able to present persuasive arguments related to product recommendations both verbally and in writing.
- Local and occasional overnight travel required. Any Independent Health employee who uses a motor vehicle in the course of their duties representing Independent Health must be compliant with New York State Motor Vehicle laws and must follow the Policy that pertains to Driver's License Requirements as a condition of employment.

Essential Accountabilities
- Lead and/or participate in development and documentation of repeatable product development process, including active participation from Medical Services, Network Contract Management, Actuarial Services/Finance, Market Research, Marketing, Sales, and Product Operations, among others. Evaluation of current products, pricing, membership, financial performance, competitor information, and game theory should be considered in the development of an individual, small group, and large group product strategy that achieves support from senior management.
- Identify risks and opportunities in a timely manner, takes initiative and responds quickly to take corrective action and/or maximize opportunities.
- Share recommendations, proposals, and status updates with senior leadership for approval. Works with communications to develop collateral to promote products to targeted customers. Provides training to internal departments on products and the product portfolio, as well as any changes within these.
- Works collaboratively with sales, marketing, operations, and finance to understand what customers are buying and why. Understand industry trends and product innovation opportunities to develop new products and features designed to retain, grow, and further engage targeted membership.
- Develop and maintain expertise in the federal and NYS requirements, processes, and procedures for participation in the New York State of Health and off exchange markets. Introduce and optimize internal operational processes and procedures to successfully build and maintain the product portfolio, while driving greater quality and efficiency.
- Function as subject matter expert in the review of proposed laws/regulations, providing interpretation and understanding of implications for the industry and Independent Health, including recommendations for how best to proceed to ensure compliance and alignment with organizational strategic objectives. Manage development and maintenance efforts for commercial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with requirements.
- Works with outside vendors, regulatory entities such as NYS Department of Health or NYS Department of Financial Services, and industry trade associations as needed to support the commercially insured product portfolio.

Hiring Compensation Range: $70,000 - $85,000 annually Compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to skills, education, location and experience. In addition to base compensation, associates may be eligible for a scorecard incentive, full range of benefits and generous paid time off. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
