Director of Clinical Services

Position Summary

Highly experienced and knowledgeable in the oversight, training and development of nursing and clinical, including behavioral health staff in congregate care settings. Guides and provides holistic health management support for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. The Director of Clinical Services will provide leadership and develop quality enhancement initiatives to ensure that all programs are meeting regulatory standards while providing guidance and support to the nursing and clinical staff to ensure the highest level of health care and wellness practices.



Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage the nursing and behavior intervention specialist (BIS) staff and provide training and support as necessary.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures related to clinical care.
  • Ensures the staff are properly trained and provide ongoing education.
  • Develops and implements quality assurance programs to ensure residences meet all regulatory standards.
  • Promotes and restores individuals' health by developing day-to-day management and long-term planning of individual care.


  • Hires, onboards, directs, mentors, develops, and coordinates nursing and BIS staff, including communicating job expectations, establishes department goals, sets performance standards and completes performance reviews.
  • Collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary professional staff to implement plans of care for individuals supported.
  • Meets nursing operational standards by contributing information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; and identifying system improvements.
  • Maintains nursing guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures.
  • Assures quality of care by developing and interpreting agency and clinical division's philosophies and standards of care, enforcing adherence to state board of nursing and state nurse practice act requirements and to other governing agency regulations, measuring health outcomes against standards, and making or recommending adjustments.
  • Promotes independence of persons supported by establishing individual care goals, teaching and counseling nurses and staff to reinforce their understanding of disease, medications, and self-care skills.
  • Helps to resolve individual needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by designing and implementing procedures.
  • Protects individuals and employees by developing and interpreting infection-control policies and protocols, and by enforcing medication administration, storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Maintains confidence and protects operations by monitoring confidential information processing.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information, responding to requests, and participating in team problem-solving methods.



Education and Licensing Requirements

  • Registered Nurse
  • Active applicable state licensure
  • America Heart Association issued BLS and ACLS
  • NY Infection Control Certification.



Experience Requirements

  • Five years nursing and additionally two five years clinical supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of OPWDD health regulations, policies and procedures
  • Background in behavioral health policies and practices.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Able to work autonomously and as part of an Interdisciplinary team.
  • Maintains a strong focus on health promotion and maintenance
  • Strong Leadership and Mentorship capabilities.
  • Diverse Clinical Skills.
  • Develops clinical practice skills using current trends and research findings.
  • Assist in the development, review and revision of clinic policies, procedures and standards.
  • Residential Services NY and NJ



Salary and Benefits

$180,000
