Job Description Summary

Under general supervision, the Lead Server is responsible for leading the services of a la carte, conference dining, and special event functions and Assisting in the training and development of the service team.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Oversees the servicing of all dining and special event activities.

  • Works closely with the kitchen by evaluating service, food quality, and efficiency.

  • Monitors cleanliness and upkeep of the dining areas and the equipment used by the service staff.

  • Ensures daily pre-shift and post-shift side work is completed to standard.

  • Delegates responsibilities to the wait staff.

  • Ensures that the service and presentation standards are maintained through the staff.

  • Maintains open lines of communication between the Kitchen and Food and Beverage Staff.

  • Reviews Banquet Event Orders (BEO) for directions and changes.

  • Maintains a good level of employee and guest relations.

  • Ability to work as a bartender during banquet and event functions.

  • Communicate any conflicts or problems with staff or clients to the Food and Beverage Manager.

  • Enforces rules of conduct and discipline in accordance with the rules and regulations set forth in the Employee Handbook.

  • Solves problems associated with overseeing the services of conference dining and special event functions.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including customer service skills.

  • Ability to make decisions and exercise independent judgment.

  • Ability to work any assigned shift/work schedule.

  • Ability to "up-sell" items such as alcohol, cigars, coffee products, etc.

  • Ability to present, open, and pour wine.

  • Ability to organize space and equipment.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language.

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and the Internet.

  • Knowledge of Opera Property Management System (training provided).

Accountabilities:

  • Leads, trains, and provides work direction and problem-solving assistance for staff.

  • Leads a staff of 5-15 servers.

  • Works under general supervision. Reports to the Food & Beverage Manager.

Physical Requirements:

  • Medium work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally (with help) and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, and hearing.

  • Visual acuity to perform an activity where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Subject to both environmental conditions: activities occur both inside and outside.
