POSITION SUMMARY:

You will work with both company divisions, Unisig and Vortakt, working closely with suppliers to negotiate for quality and pricing on raw materials and purchased goods and developing effective working relationships. You will enjoy daily interaction with mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure the timely and accurate purchasing of components and raw materials and interact with Operations to ensure that the priorities are clear and achievable. You will provide leadership and direction to purchasing, inventory control, and shipping and receiving staff, and work closely with financial/accounting staff for billing and logistics. This position is integral to the well-functioning of the organization. You can make a dramatic impact!

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Understand the overall functionality and makeup of our products
  • Manage purchasing, inventory control, and shipping/receiving staff, developing their skills and capabilities to maximize their potential and monitoring performance.
  • Negotiate the best pricing and manage suppliers, building partnerships that lend themselves to expedient delivery of quality items such as precision mechanical components, raw steel, castings, and weldments, industrial electronics, fluid power systems, assembled components tested to engineering specifications, machined parts produced to engineering drawings, and outsourced services related to production
  • Manage component delivery schedules and inventory values, frequently reviewing status and altering inventory levels as necessary to ensure item availability when needed without overstocking or shortages, as well as service/warranty preparedness while controlling costs of idle inventory.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage all logistics including international shipping and related commercial requirements
  • Efficiently utilize the ERP system to identify material requirements for the company.
  • Generates reports on inventory levels, supplier performance, and material costs for review.
  • Promote LEAN culture throughout all departments
  • Work closely with department managers to provide outstanding material flow and movement.
  • Maintain material database of export control classifications for all components and spare parts
  • Maintain SDS database for all hazardous/controlled substances purchased for use or provided by customers for machine testing



POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate degree in materials management or related discipline plus 5+ years experience in materials management related to complex engineered products or equivalent combination
  • Strong grasp of Lean material flow and the coordination of material movement
  • Strong business acumen to understand the impact of Materials on the organization; supply chain flow and management; direct path to, and engagement with manufacturers; and how to impact change/improvement
  • Demonstrated international logistics experience
  • Excellent work ethic and the ability to work self-directed
  • An organized thought process with very high attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Database, etc.)
  • Strong ERP / MRP system knowledge
