Technical responsibilities include the development of numerous VIRGINIA Payload Module (VPM), Subsea and Seabed Warfare (SSW), and VIRGINIA Class system design products. The I&C systems engineering group is responsible for the alarm, monitoring, and safety circuits that transmit data concerning ship systems and equipment conditions to command and control areas. Efficient methods to transmit, receive, and display data from sensors (e.g. programmable logic controllers, VME cards) are also explored by the I&C systems group. This group also engineers the advanced sensing technologies and instrumentation used to supply all HM&E systems with data. This group also engineers video monitoring and recording equipment consisting of underwater cameras, LCD flat panels, and state of the art video switching and recording devices. The I&C systems group also acts as the lead electrical group for DSS-SOC issues for the Electrical Engineering and Design (EED) directorate. The auxiliary systems engineering group is responsible for the system development and integration of VIRGINIA Class non-propulsion motor controllers, lighting, galley, and select Independent Research and Development (IRAD) projects.
