The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Editorial to join our Firm. Within this position, you will be responsible for day-to-day oversight of the editorial team's efforts, reviewing a wide range of content, providing guidance on editorial projects, and drafting or creating high-profile collateral for use across business development and marketing platforms. This position will be based in our New York office and has a hybrid schedule. Please note that the Firm will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Oversees creation of content across editorial projects, including annual client-facing compendium of articles and pro bono and alumni publications, among others.
  • Reviews editorial-generated content, including Firm news, capabilities descriptions, brochures, and message points for business development purposes, attorney biographies, thought leadership, social media, speeches, etc.
  • Initiates review and revision of materials (attorney biographies, capabilities descriptions, Firm overview, Firm website, etc.) and, when possible, customizes for specific business development needs.
  • Works with marketing employees and other business services professional departments to ensure that content deliverables meet the needs of internal and external clients.
  • Collaborates with other business services professional departments on their editorial projects.
  • Responsible for tone, style and "voice" of all written marketing collateral.
  • Ensures focused, effective materials and copy that is accurate and error-free.
  • Reviews materials before external distribution, such as ads and mailing teasers.
  • Ensures that the employees maintain current knowledge of Firm policies and practices, as well as industry trends, and receive continued professional development for business services professionals.
  • Participates in the interviewing, selection and training process.
  • Coordinates and oversees department projects, day-to-day operations and long-range plans.
  • Monitors time, attendance, overtime, and expense reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with Firm policies.
  • Effectively utilizes the Firm's performance management process to communicate performance expectations, monitor performance, coach employees, and manage unsatisfactory performance.
  • Oversees employees' work performance and provides guidance in the resolution of problems.
  • Initiates disciplinary procedures in collaboration with the Human Resources Department.
  • Recommends guidelines and practices to promote efficiency, effectiveness, excellent customer service and improved employee relations, in alignment with the Firm's Core Values.
  • Develops and communicates departmental guidelines and procedures with respect to editorial projects.
  • Ensures accurate and timely responses to requests for departmental services.
  • Engages in strategic (i.e., long-range) planning by developing departmental goals and supporting objectives for assigned department(s).
  • Regular and reliable physical presence (ex: work as part of a team, meet with clients, use on-site equipment, etc.)
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others.
  • Demonstrates significant independence in the role.
  • Consistently demonstrates thought leadership and the implementation of best practices.

  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility.
  • Manages Firm resources responsibly.

Qualifications

  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • Current knowledge of industry best practices, trends and techniques
  • Knowledge of relevant Firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems
  • Knowledge and implementation of the annual budget process
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrates close attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational and planning skills
  • Demonstrated experience with leading and supervising others
  • Ability to administer Firm policies and procedures
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and delegating effectively
  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of seven years of related experience in a law firm/professional services environment or in journalism
  • Minimum of five years of related experience managing people
  • Minimum of five consecutive years of experience with the Firm or equivalent for external candidate

The starting base salary for this position is expected to be within the range listed under Salary Details. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other-job related factors, consistent with applicable law.
