Description
The Environmental Services Operations Director is responsible for the effective direction, management, and operation of all functions of the Environmental Services to maintain a clean and safe medical center environment. Serves as lead technical expert in healthcare environmental services protocols and standards. Serve as executive liaison ensuring needs of the organization are effectively addressed in a timely manner. Ensures cohesion among the EVS teams to ensure requests and issues are addressed in a timely manner with closed loop communication to customers. Will include interpretation and administration of all applicable legal, regulatory, and policy requirements, including JCAHO, state, and federal and local regulations and guidelines (i.e. OSHA, HAZMAT, DOH, EPA); HR functions; and negotiation of contracts.
Qualifications
Minimum Education Bachelor's Degree Business Management or other health-related field (Required)
Minimum Work Experience 5 years Hospital experience (Required) 3 years Acute care hospital management experience (Required) 2 years Supervision of staff in a Collective Bargaining Agreement (ie Union staff) (Required) 2 years Children's hospital experience (Preferred) 1 year Experience in managing and negotiating external contracts. (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge Knowledge of all applicable legal, regulatory, and policy requirements, including JCAHO, state, and federal and local regulations and guidelines (i.e. OSHA, HAZMAT , DOH, EPA). Understanding of infection control requirements as they relate to Environmental Services functions. The ability to present ideas and information in a concise, timely, effective and interpersonally appropriate manner through written and oral form. Excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills. Ability to coach and develop others. Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment. The ability to model continuous professional self-development, resulting in the enhanced performance of the organization. Significant experience in customer service and/or hospitality environment preferred.
Required Licenses and Certifications Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) or Certificate of Mastery in Infection Prevention (CMIP) (Preferred)
Functional Accountabilities Leadership
- Serve as executive liaison ensuring needs of the organization are effectively addressed in a timely manner
- Collaborate with the Program Director EVS and Vice President of Operations on significant issues or barriers.
- Partner with the Program Director to annually develop, communicate and coordinate area specific strategic plans that are consistent with organizational goals, vision, and mission statement; produce positive outcomes related to the strategic planning initiative on an annual basis.
- Ensure that a safe work environment is maintained.
- Provide leadership and guidance to support staff and direct reports.
- Ensure departmental compliance with the hospital's administrative and professional policies, and governmental and accreditation regulations
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures regarding EVS cleaning protocols providing technical guidance and expertise
- Serve as departmental leader on call in rotation with other managers and above in the department.
Operations Management
- Oversee day-to-day operational functions to ensure efficient operation of all EVS areas including patient room cleaning effectiveness and turnaround times.
- Facilitate, and participate in, ongoing teams designed to plan, communicate, implement, and evaluate optimal support services.
- Monitor contractors work for compliance; ensure contractors work and projects are of high quality.
- Manage onsite EVS teams; supervise managers and administrators responsible for the operations of Environmental Services throughout the hospital.
- Provide technical advice and consultation regarding environmental services to all CNMC organizations
Process Improvement and HR Management
- Serve as lead technical expert in healthcare environmental services protocols and standards
- Lead ongoing efforts to improve departmental Patient Experience metrics and drive activities enhancing customer support
- Partner with the Program Director EVS to recommend and implement new processes and systems to meet departmental / organizational safety, efficiency and sustainability needs.
- Partner with HR to direct initiatives for the recruitment and retention of qualified staff on a consistent basis.
- Support continuing education of staff in competency development in areas of defined responsibility.
Financial Management
- Prepare, coordinate and administer annual expense budget.
- Monitor performance reports and budget variances.
- Project volume and needs, justify variances, and initiate corrective actions to adjust variances accordingly.
- Develop recommendations to facilitate meeting budget requirements.
- Collaborate in the development and presentation of annual administrative capital equipment and renovation budget, and subsequent purchases and renovations during fiscal year.
