Job Description

The Institutional Research arm of the University Data, Analytics, and Institutional Research (UDAIR) division has an opportunity for a new Associate Data Analyst. This position will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting on institutional data in support of the University's decision-making and planning. The position also assists with integrating data across all institutional information systems, the collection of data to complete internal and external surveys, data reports and projects, responding to ad hoc data requests and perform/create various reports and analyses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop programmatic expertise around various external submission, data, and internal surveys and assessment in support of the Academic Mission.
  • Support analysis through business intelligence development, data modeling, analyses, support documentation, reports, and deliverable maintenance for a variety of stakeholders throughout the campus in support of Institutional Research.
  • Uses basic statistical methods to analyze data and generate
  • useful reports (e.g., distributions, variance, etc.). Uses data visualization tools to present results and information. Ability and desire to learn and use new software applications.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to relay data issues in an organized and easily understandable manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a customer-service orientation. This person must be able to establish relationships with internal departments to inform data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Assists with developing, preparing, delivering and interpreting department or unit specific data sets.
  • Prepares routine reports, apps, dashboards, presentations, and proposals that are easy to read and interpret.
  • Provides basic subject matter expertise about data quality, task suitability, and availability. Complete and present data reports and dashboards requested by the college, departments and offices explaining complex information including recommendations based on findings from the analysis of data.
  • Proficiency with standard desktop and statistical software. Experience in particular excel and PowerBI is helpful, but the team also provides training support.
  • Design and suggest tables needed to develop automated reports and dashboards to deliver timely and up to date information delivery.
  • Produce ad hoc and periodical reporting by utilizing university data, primarily by writing SQL and using Microsoft Power BI. Extensively use Excel's advanced functionality, such as pivot tables, formulas, to develop and optimize routine reporting.
  • Assist Director of IR in establishing and executing on short- and long-term analytics goals.
  • Exhibit personal accountability and effective work habits (e.g., meeting deadlines, effective work prioritization, due diligence).

Shift

Monday - Friday, 40 hours a week; some occasional weekend work will be necessary, but can be performed at home.
Approximately 60% of the position's time must be spent in the office or working with other units; The rest can be hybrid and flexible

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor's or Masters degree in a relevant discipline requiring evidence of mastery in research methods (e.g., surveys, focus groups, interviews) and quantitative analysis
  • Demonstrated ability in using the Microsoft 365 Office Suite, including an intermediate or advanced knowledge of Excel (i.e., pivot tables, formulas, etc.).
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (Microsoft Power BI preferred).
  • Experience with programmable software (eg, SQL) preferred.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to relay data issues in an organized and easily understandable manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a customer-service orientation, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with a keen orientation to detail and concern for accuracy, as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Ability and desire to learn and use new software applications.
  • Possess the ability to manage multiple priorities under hard deadlines while maintaining a high level of professionalism and exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Possess the ability to work effectively on complex projects, manage multiple tasks, and function with general direction.
  • Background in higher education.
  • Experience in process improvement. If no experience, will be trained in process development and process redesign.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $55,000 - $80,000 yearly

Grade: GGS-010
