The Position

This position supports student recruitment and enrollment, and also provides direct student academic coaching to increase institutional retention.

Classification: Non-Affiliated Administrator

Staff Duration: Full Time 12 months


What You Will Do

1. Provides holistic assistance for students; guides students throughout their time at the College; assists students in exploring options, setting goals, and creating a plan to achieve desired outcomes; communicates proactively with students throughout all phases of the student experience.

2. Monitors student academic progress by using college administrative systems, and provides coaching, advice and referrals to internal and external resources and services, including crisis intervention and counseling, to address student needs.

3. Manages student interactions through CRM system, including documenting interactions with students, and maintaining accurate, organized, completed, and detailed records; develops and maintains reports as required or assigned.

4.Frequently and proactively communicates with students through telephone calls, emails, digital messaging, text messaging, and classroom visits and creates academic plans and strategies to improve students' success.

5. Administers and reviews results of non-cognitive assessments to make intentional outreach with students to support educational achievement.

6. Develops knowledge of and adheres to College policies and procedures that relate to degree requirements, courses, course selection, scheduling, pre-registration and registration, and college admission.

7. Works with various OCC offices to identify, recommend and refer students to appropriate services to meet the social and human services needs of students, including crisis intervention, counseling and follow-up as needed.

8. Maintains working knowledge of services offered by College personnel and departments, and assists students in fully utilizing all the resources available to them at the College.

9. Participates in designated training and/or conferences and stays up to date on departmental and institutional training, processes and procedures.

10. Related project assistance and duties as assigned.


The Successful Candidate Must Have

1. Bachelor's Degree in psychology, social work, sociology, counseling, education, or related academic discipline.

2. Two years of prior coaching or advising experience that provided direct student development services to students to traditionally under-served, academically at-risk and/or first generation student populations.

3. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and exceptional interpersonal skills.

4. Ability to serve as a team or project leader and or assist with the supervision of others.

5. Demonstrated proficiency with the use of Microsoft Office Suite and prior database experience that required the ability to create standard documents and reports and perform database maintenance activities; prior experience with web based tools.
