Job Description:

A Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) works under the supervision of licensed physical therapists (PTs) to provide hands-on care to patients. Their role is critical in helping patients recover from injuries, illnesses, or surgeries that affect mobility and physical function. Below are the primary responsibilities of PTAs in a hospital setting:

  • The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) is responsible for the implementation of treatment programs for referred patients as developed by the Physical Therapist (PT).
    • Helping patients with mobility training, such as walking with assistive devices (e.g., crutches, walkers, or canes).
    • Applying therapeutic modalities, such as heat packs, cold therapy, ultrasound, or electrical stimulation, to reduce pain or improve circulation and healing.
  • The PTA contributes to the development and the upgrading of treatment programs and protocols.
    • Monitoring Progress
    • Patient and Family Education
    • Collaborating with the Healthcare Team
  • The PTA also contributes to the development and completion of departmental and organizational goals and objectives.

Requirements:

  • Associates Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited institution by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)
  • New graduates accepted but experience is preferred
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Kentucky
  • BLS Certification
