Summary:
We are seeking a professional cook to join our healthcare culinary team.

Responsibilities:
1. Prepares and arranges complete meals and special events foods according to recipes.

2. Completes basic mathematical calculations to alter quantities as needed.

3. Ensures quality of foods. Assists in testing and standardizing recipes.

4. Maintains proper temperatures for food.

5. Operates and cleans all production utensils and equipment.

6. Maintains cooking area in a neat, orderly and sanitary manner.

7. Prepares food, including meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, and soups for regular, modified, and calculated diets using weighing and measuring techniques.

8. Exposure to heat, steam and kitchen equipment.

9. Standing for extended periods of time.

10. Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.

* No licensure or certification required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
* One (1) year of experience in the cooking of food in quantity lots or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* If Associate's degree in Culinary Arts, no experience is required.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

  • Strong culinary skills and knowledge of various cooking techniques.
  • Ability to follow detailed recipes and dietary guidelines.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Maintain food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, including handling utensils, equipment, and dishes.
  • Handle and store ingredients in accordance with the US food code and Wake County regulations.
  • Practiced knife skills along with meat and fish fabrication.
  • Competent in proper cooking (baking, grilling, sauteing, steaming, roasting, smoking, braising, sous vide of meats, vegetables, fish, poultry, and other foods) and cooling techniques and procedures.
  • Competence in operation of kitchen equipment such as broilers, combi-ovens, grills, steamers, tilt skillets, slicers, food processors, blenders, circulators, and blast chillers.

Additional Requirements:

  • ServSafe or equivalent food safety certification required (will be requested if selected for an interview).
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity and the ability to safely handle kitchen equipment.

Preferences:

  • Prefer candidates with culinary degree or certification
  • Prefer a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a high-volume kitchen, such as a hotel, casino, resort, restaurant or hospital.
