Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Conduct tests on aggregate produced at the quarry to determine composition and consistency with required specifications.
  • Ensures quality through evaluation of the production processes, material inputs and outputs. Partners with production/operations to ensure that the highest quality product is being delivered.
  • Identify and become familiar with various mix specifications requirements.

Monitoring Aggregate Qualityfor Specific Jobs:

  • Monitor the quality of aggregate ina safe, efficient and productive manner.
  • Obtain specification requirements.
  • Test materials to determine weight, specific gravity and gradation of mix components.
  • Communicate regarding mix specifications and test results.
  • Input test result data into computers in laboratories and remote locations

Monitoring Hot Mix Quality for Specific Jobs:

  • Monitor the quality of hot asphalt mix in a safe, efficient and productive manner.
  • Monitor temperature, thickness, density and overall condition of pavements during installation. Assist and make recommendations.
  • Conduct tests on asphalt mix to determine composition and consistency with required specifications. Assist in adjustment of mix composition to ensure asphalt mix within specifications.
  • Communicate regarding mix specifications and test results.
  • Input test result data into computers in laboratories and remote locations

Monitoring HMA Pavement Quality for Installation on Specific Jobs.

  • Monitor the quality of HMA pavement in a safe, efficient and productive manner.
  • Obtain specification requirements.
  • Measure temperature and thickness
  • Determine density using a density meter and calibrate such meter.
  • Obtain Core specimens according to applicable methodology.
  • Test materials to determine weight, specific gravity and gradation of mix components.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers/consultants regarding mix specifications.
  • Communicate and assist paving personnel in adjusting processes to conform to specifications.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with and work well with other personnel, customers, and state engineers and to accomplish objectives of job position and project requirements.
  • Develop files using Microsoft Excel to track test results of HMA properties.
  • Analyze data statistically.
