The Director/Manager of Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM)will lead and oversee risk management initiatives across the university. This role ensures adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies, while fostering a proactive risk-aware culture. Reporting to the Chief Audit Executive, the individual will work collaboratively with university leadership, departments, and other stakeholders to develop, implement, and sustain institutional compliance and ERM frameworks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and facilitate discussions and training related to compliance and enterprise risk management across the University.
  • Support and guide the implementation of compliance initiatives, ensuring the University's adherence to relevant regulations and standards.
  • Oversee, prepare, and present written reports on compliance and enterprise risk matters to University management and the Audit Committee. Collaborate with management to identify and implement action plans to address areas of risk exposure.
  • Design and execute training and awareness programs on compliance obligations and risk management principles for faculty, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and advise on their potential impact on university policies and operations.
  • Establish and maintain systems for tracking, investigating, and resolving compliance violations or risk incidents.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership, including dashboards and key performance indicators (KPIs) for compliance and ERM initiatives.
  • Assist with strategic and operational risk assessments and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Act as a resource and subject matter expert for compliance and ERM best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Law, Risk Management or a related field.

Required Licenses, Certificates, and/or Security Clearances:

  • Relevant certifications such as CCEP, CPA, CIA, RIMS-CRMP, or equivalent.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations applicable to higher education institutions, such as Title IX, Clery Act, FERPA, and research compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing compliance programs, a higher education setting is preferred.
  • High ethical standards and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to continuous improvement in a dynamic environment.
  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage remote work efficiently.
  • Exceptional project management skills, ensuring quality outcomes and adherence to timelines.
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple projects effectively.
  • Expertise in assessing risk and compliance issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Must be able to travel as needed (est. 5-10%)

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience in institutional compliance, risk management, or related field, preferably within higher education or a similarly complex organization. Candidates with less experience may be considered for a Manager-level position based on qualifications and experience.
