Job Description

This position offers an exciting opportunity for a versatile and skilled trades professional to contribute to the dynamic operations of the College of Arts & Science, with a focus on supporting the Department of Psychological Sciences. The ideal candidate will have expertise in general trades with some experience in carpentry/woodworking, mechanical and electrical trades to ensure the functionality and upkeep of office, classroom, and laboratory spaces. This role involves a combination of independent tasks and collaboration with the university's Facilities team to deliver solutions for diverse needs but day-to-day will be responsible for general upkeep and maintenance. Advanced mechanical or electrical skills are not required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • General Maintenance: Perform routine upkeep of office, classroom, and laboratory spaces, including minor repairs and adjustments. Primary responsibilities will include carpentry and woodworking skills.
  • Basic Fabrication and Assembly: Assist with fabrication and assembly tasks for educational and research purposes.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Conduct basic preventive maintenance on equipment (motors, generators, and electrical and mechanical instruments) and furniture, with guidance from Facilities staff as needed.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain tools and materials inventory, ensuring supplies are available for routine tasks.
  • Collaboration: Provide support for more complex projects to the Facilities team. Utilize independent judgement to determine when Facilities team should be consulted and when equipment can be repaired or if replacement is necessary.

In addition, proficiency in using tools and equipment, the ability to lift moderate weights (25-30 lbs), and adherence to safety protocols is necessary. This role requires strong problem-solving, effective communication, and a commitment to high-quality work in a collaborative, educational and research environment.

Shift

The work is generally performed Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. However, specific hours and days can be flexible. For instance, the department is willing to consider five 8-hour days or four 10-hour days.

Minimum Qualifications

An Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Employees working within this classification are required to wear appropriate safety equipment and apparel.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $20.00 - $27.00/hour
