The mission of Translational Medicine is to develop and execute innovative biomarker and diagnostic strategies to drive clinical development through all phases of the portfolio, and conduct foundational disease-oriented translational research to maximize our scientific and clinical impact. Our biomarker strategies are designed to study the molecular pathways driving disease and to establish the mechanism of action of our therapeutics. We focus on prognostic, predictive and pharmacodynamic biomarkers to enable our vision of "the right drug for the right patient at the right dose." We focus on translational research to maximize the learnings and insights from multi-omics biomarker data from clinical data sets in support of building foundational models and biomarker and target discovery.

We are seeking a highly motivated Principal / Senior Principal Scientist to join the TM Department at Genentech to drive our biomarker and drug development efforts in Nephrology. The successful candidate will provide scientific leadership for biomarkers supporting early proof-of-concept projects through to marketed products, as well as supporting translational research. through analysis of samples and clinical data collected through our trials and observational cohorts.

The Opportunity:

The successful candidate will join our dynamic team and work in Nephrology indications including Lupus and Chronic Kidney Disease. The employee will be:

  • Supporting clinical trials, lead Translational Research efforts for data generation and analyses within trials and observational cohorts, and participate in external academic collaborations relating to understanding biomarkers and relevant disease pathomechanisms.

  • Providing thorough understanding of disease and drug target biology, creativity and attention to detail, and experience in integrating biomarkers into clinical trials.

  • Being familiar with molecular, immunological and -omic techniques, and generating, analyzing and interpreting high dimensional data are preferred.

  • Working in close partnership across various functions including Research, Bioanalytical Assay Science, Diagnostics, Clinical Sciences, Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Regulatory, and external partners.

  • Providing effective communication and presenting at cross-functional teams, internal review committees, and external conferences, and will also involve writing biomarker sections of clinical protocols, reports, regulatory filings and scientific publications.

Who You Are:

  • Candidates must have a PhD or MD in Immunology or a related field with at least 3 years of post-doctoral or fellowship experience ( Principal Scientist); 7 years of post-doctoral or fellowship experience ( Senior Principal Scientist) in basic or translational research either in an academic and/or industry setting.

  • Preferred candidates will have prior experience in the study of autoimmunity, B cell biology and/or inflammation and a demonstrated ability to function as part of a cross-functional team such as research or clinical trial project teams.

  • Candidates must demonstrate a high level of independence and be able to develop hypotheses and direct analysis plans.

  • Strong writing and communication skills are required, as evidenced by publications, meeting abstracts and/or drug development reports.

  • Candidates must be passionate about using their understanding of disease biology to make impactful contributions to clinical drug development.

  • Willingness to collaborate across time zones, including our Swiss site, is a must.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $141,500-$262,900 (Principal Scientist) and $176,600-$328,000 (Senior Principal Scientist) . Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
