POSITION DESCRIPTION

Multiple research scientist, postdoctoral scholar, and staff positions are available at the Center for Neural Circuit Mapping and in the laboratory of Dr. Xiangmin Xu at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine.

The UCI Center for Neural Circuit Mapping focuses on neural circuit studies and new viral-genetic and multi-omics technology development. The Center members are committed to moving science forward for the benefit of the public by leading research and educational initiatives, as well as training the next generation of scientific leaders.

The laboratory of Dr. Xiangmin Xu, Chancellor's Professor and Founding Director of the Center for Neural Circuit Mapping (CNCM) at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), is known for their research in neural circuits, sensory perception, learning and memory, and neural plasticity associated with aging and Alzheimer's disease. Their team uses state-of-the-art approaches of single-cell and spatial genomics, electrophysiology, optical imaging, genetically modified viral tracing, and behavioral measurements. Their research work has significant potential for translational applications for better treatments of neurodevelopmental, neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders.

(1) Research Scientist / Postdoctoral Scholar Requirements: The candidate should have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, with strong experimental or analytic training in molecular, cellular or systems neuroscience. Candidates who have skills including neuroanatomical tracing, slice electrophysiology or in vivo functional imaging would be encouraged to apply at the link: https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF09016; https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF09018

(2) Virus Production Specialist Requirements: The candidate should have BS, MS or PhD in Biology or a related field. We are interested in recruiting lab staff / scientists who have experience in cell culture and virus propagation, and some molecular and cell biology skills. They will participate in and support our research program of developing new viral genetic tools, including recombinant neurotropic viruses and AAVs.

Please apply at https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF09371

(3) Electrophysiology Specialist Requirements: The candidate should have BS, MS or PhD in Biology or a related field. They may design and execute electrophysiology experiments independently or with some supervision, including whole-cell patch-clamp recordings and local field potential recordings.

Please apply at https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/JPF09369

As needed, please contact Dr. Xiangmin Xu at xiangmin.xu@uci.edu for inquiries.

Company

The Center for Neural Circuit Mapping (CNCM) is currently administered by the UCI School of Medicine (SOM) Office of Research. Leveraging their multiple NIH BRAIN Initiative Awards, other NIH grants and collaborations, SOM faculty Xiangmin Xu, Rozanne Sandri-Goldin, Todd Holmes and Bert Semler developed the Center plan which was recommended by the Dean's Research Council and approved by the Dean on January 27, 2020.
