DEKA Research and Development, housed in Manchester, NH, has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineering Intern to work in a dynamic Research and Development environment.Our team is looking for an intern that is clever, innovative, and likes to be challenged to work on solutions to hard problems. This internship gives the student a chance to learn the design process from clean sheet of paper to reporting on the final design with test data. They will be part of a larger team and will be involved on many projects and have many opportunities to be involved in all aspects of mechanical engineering including design for manufacturability.

DEKA offers Internships and Co-Ops for full time students* (must be at least 18 years of age). Internships last a minimum of 10 weeks, 12 preferred.All summerinternships must start no later than June 16, 2025.

How will you make an impact?
  • Work with a mechanical group designing and testing medical products
  • Support the mechanical group and accomplish tasks with minimal direction
  • Generate creative solutions to design problems and demonstrate their viability considering factors such as risk, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and weight and cost.
  • Troubleshoot design failure modes to root cause and develop timely, effective solutions.
  • Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team environment including electrical, software, industrial design, and controls.
  • Evaluate designs through prototype testing and requirement verification.
  • Provide technical reviews for all mechanical component and assembly designs, analysis, and testing.
  • Assemble fixtures and devices to support development and testing.
Skills we are looking for:
  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Mechanical Engineering program
  • Mechanical aptitude and hands on mechanical experience (working on cars, fixing bicycles or FIRST robotics a plus)
  • Demonstrated experience with various component manufacturing/fabrication processes (Injection Molding, Sheet Metal/Stamping, Casting, Forging, Machining, etc.) and assembly processes (Electronics Assembly, Welding, Fastening, Automation, etc.).
  • Demonstrated evidence of individually solving a challenging technical problem is required.
  • Must be highly motivated as well as results and detail oriented.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be detailed oriented
  • Solidworks (or other CAD program) experience is a plus

*Applicants should be aware that short-term housing options in Manchester, NH are limited and that DEKA is not able to assist with housing.

*A full time student is defined as being enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits per semester at an undergraduate program, or a minimum of 9 credits per semester for a graduate program.
