GGENERAL SUMMARY

The role of the Continuation Engineering Supervisor is to supervise the Continuation Engineering department. Its responsibilities include managing personnel needs, maintaining and reporting team metrics, maintaining and training to SOPs, ensuring responsible deployment of engineering resources, and providing sound engineering guidance to direct reports.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

Managing Personnel Needs

  • Proactively assess the workload of the team, ensuring the department is properly staffed for future needs.
  • Maintain the team skills matrix, ensuring all skillsets are adequately covered, and schedule training to address shortfalls.
  • Perform recurring one-on-one meetings with direct reports.
  • Create career development plans for direct reports.
  • Assess engineering promotion levels against industry norms, and provide input to HR and the Tech Services Manager.
  • Represent DeZURIK at career fairs and hiring events, and/or delegates the opportunity to other team members.


Maintaining and Reporting Team Metrics

  • Establish meaningful team and personnel metrics, specifically around production support, CE project success, and overall effectiveness.
  • Establish and maintain systems/softwares to collect data and report on metrics.
  • Provide periodic team metric reports to department heads.
  • Attend daily production meetings as the main representative of the CE Dept, or delegates appropriately.


Maintaining and Training to Standard Operating Procedures

  • Ensure appropriate SOPs are created and maintained for engineering processes.
  • Maintain a training log for personnel to ensure proper training to the SOPs.


Deployment of Engineering Resources

  • Using good judgement, strategically deploy the engineering team to provide the greatest benefit to the company.
  • Establish and communicate the priorities of the team, both to individuals on the team and to outside departments.
  • Provide periodic updates of engineering bandwidth for new projects.
  • Involved in project planning for CE projects.


Provides Sound Engineering Guidance

  • As the department head, provide guidance and coaching to direct reports using best engineering practices.
  • Encourage the use of facts and data, and other objective evidence, in making engineering decisions and recommendations.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience.
  • No formal 'manager of people' skills required, but encouraged.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Comfortable in a leadership position.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and provide constructive feedback.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledgeable of emerging trends and developments in the engineering discipline.
  • Able to present team metric reports to leadership.
  • Knowledge of valve and actuator design encouraged.
  • Knowledge of metal castings and precision machining encouraged.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Physical demands are typical of an office position including extended periods of sitting, extensive use of a personal computer and telephone.
  • Factory floor support is expected.


The physical requirements of the job are related to testing in the engineering lab, field service activities that can be part of the job assignments or handling component parts in the plant during a quality inspection

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal manufacturing and office environment. When working occasionally in some shop areas, personal protection equipment (PPE) will be recommended and/or required (safety shoes, safety glasses w/side shields, hearing protection, face shield, gloves, apron and boots). Must have the ability to support extended business hours to meet customer business needs.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

DeZURIK offers a competitive base salary in the $81,609 to $102,012 range, based on experience and qualifications, along with annual bonus opportunities tied to performance.
