Exciting Opportunity for a remote 3D Printing Field Service Engineer at leading 3D design & manufacturing solutions leader, Hawk Ridge Systems, working with incredible 3D Printers throughout the U.S. and Canada!

We are looking for an autonomous, detail-oriented 3D Printing Field Service Engineer living in Southern, CA who possesses a strong work ethic and a passion for amazing customer service. While the majority of the customers that you will service will be based in Southern California, this role involves approximately 20% overnight travel across the U.S. and Canada (around 4-5 days per month). Occasionally, you will have extended trips lasting up to 5 days each that may require air travel, which typically occurs 5-6 times per year.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING IN THIS 3D PRINTING FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER ROLE?



  • Travel to customer sites within the Southern CA area, building strong relationships, and working diligently to keep their 3D printing operations up and running at peak efficiency in order to minimize customer downtime
  • Install new 3D Printers and required hardware, as well as perform software and firmware updates
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve 3D printing equipment issues
  • Train and transfer technical knowledge to the end user
  • Escalate unresolved issues as needed
  • Support the sales organization with technical expertise in order to help facilitate the sales process
  • Assist the operations group with managing day-to-day business activities of the 3D Printing business
  • Develop written processes and procedures as required


WHAT DO I NEED TO SUCCEED IN THIS 3D PRINTING FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER ROLE?



  • Must live in the Southern, CA territory (LA is preferred)
  • Must have a valid Driver's License, reliable transportation, and adequate vehicle insurance (primary territory is Southern CA)
  • Willingness to travel significant portions of the work week and work extended hours at times


    • Must be available for travel within the U.S. and Canada with 24-hours' notice, including occasional week-long overnight travel (refer to details above)


  • Associate degree in electronics OR equivalent experience in machine repair and maintenance
  • 2+ years of customer-facing experience utilizing some combination of:


    • Electro-Mechanical Skills (disassembling and assembling of tooling assemblies, troubleshooting, and worn components replacement; electrical expertise in high-voltage electrical safety procedures, reading schematic drawings, wiring and PCBs troubleshooting, and taking measurements with voltmeter; and proficiency in electronics and electrical, mechanical, software, maintenance, and repair procedures documentation)
    • Manufacturing Technologies and Processes Skills (experience servicing industrial equipment; knowledgeable in Additive Manufacturing techniques and technologies such as FDM, SLS, SLA; basic CAD user experience; and/or knowledgeable with manufacturing materials such as thermoplastics, photopolymers, metal, and ceramic powders)
    • IT Skills (experience in Operating Systems management, maintenance of user access, control management, security administration, software installation on Microsoft Windows systems; and/or experienced in supporting and/or managing enterprise network hardware such as switches, hubs, network-attached devices, TCP/IP and Ethernet networking configuration and troubleshooting)


  • Ability to understand and follow protocols for office, lab, manufacturing environments
  • Exceptional attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communications skills, good computer skills, and some experience writing technical reports
  • Exercises good judgment, takes initiative, is decisive, and works well under pressure
  • Must possess a positive attitude, be confident in one's abilities, and have the ability to multitask while working independently, meeting all timelines, and ensuring a commitment to quality and safety

Hawk Ridge Systems has determined that the hourly new hire pay range for this role is between $24.50 and $38.00, plus anticipated overtime. Your base pay will be based on a number of factors including knowledge, skills, qualifications, and experience. Since we appreciate transparency, we are sharing that we expect to hire for this position up to the middle of this new hire range, allowing you the opportunity to increase your compensation as you grow in your career.
