Practice Area Coordinator II
Steptoe LLP, a Washington, DC-based Am Law 100 firm, is actively seeking a Practice Area Coordinator II to perform administrative and secretarial support for the firm as a whole and specifically for the attorneys to whom assigned.
Essential Functions
Legal Document Coordination and Court Interactions:
- File court documents and coordinate paper filings.
- Download docket sheets and filings.
- Conduct factual research online regarding court rules and create templates/first drafts of pleadings.
- Obtain records or other information from courts and various sources under attorney supervision.
- Monitor case developments
Trial Preparation and Case Management:
- Assist with trial preparation.
- Create case budgets and reports using formulas and pivot tables.
- Draft and edit correspondence, legal documents, memoranda, and other written materials under attorney supervision.
- Monitor and maintain coordination chart of attorney and team member projects.
Internal Communication and Collaboration:
Review and synthesize information to create first drafts of firm committee, practice group, and bar association documents. Attend partner-level meetings on specific practice area. - Interact with other firm departments and resources to ensure completeness of work product.
- Work with New Business Intake to open and close matters.
- Assist with training team members.
- Provide secretarial assistance for other attorneys when their secretary is out-of-office
Client Communication and Business Development:
- Attend client update and business development sessions.
- Create analytical reports for business development.
- Monitor articles and ideas that are relevant to business development opportunities for the firm.
- Communicate with clients and other personnel outside the firm.
Accounting and Billing:
- Collaborate with accounting to prepare bills for clients.
- Prepare and secure approvals for accounting forms, including check requests and expense reports.
Non-Essential Functions
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 15 years legal secretarial experience required
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Some college preferred

- Knowledge of Trial Director software to assist with exhibit/document submission during trials
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and must remain current on all S&J software where it impacts the responsibilities of the position

The anticipated base salary for this position is $101,500-$129,900. The actual base salary offered will be dependent upon the applicant's experience and qualifications, as well as other job-related factors, including but not limited to, relevant skills, education, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, geographic location.
