Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Data Management Intern in our Fresno, CA or Sacramento, CA office. The position offers the opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real-world situations through environmental data management for a variety of technical practices including, contaminated site investigation, human health risk assessment, subsurface remediation, water resources, and geotechnical engineering. The position is full-time (40 hours/week) for approximately 13 to 15 weeks during the summer of 2025. Candidates are responsible for coordinating their own transportation to and from the office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Support in designing and managing relational databases using desktop (MS Access) and enterprise (SQL Server, EQuIS) database software;
  • Improving workflows and process efficiency using programming languages (e.g. R, Python, VBA);
  • Developing comprehensive workflows and metadata to automate compilation of data from multiple sources and serve data to maps, reports and other tools;
  • Compiling, verifying, analyzing, and reporting large and diverse datasets;
  • Creating web-based reports and dashboards using BI tools;


Education and Licensure

  • Currently registered in a Bachelor's or Master's university degree program in a relevant technical discipline (data science, computer science, or engineering). (required)


Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Familiarity with environmental data and knowledge of basic statistics. (preferred)
  • Familiarity with relational databases and extract-transform-load (ETL) processes, reporting, data management, and visualization. (preferred)
  • Proficiency in Python and/or SQL. (preferred)
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills. (required)
  • Understanding of data quality control concepts. (required)
  • Solid general technical / analytical capabilities, including the ability to learn new software quickly. (required)
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, including the ability to write complex formulas and visualize data effectively. (preferred)

This opportunity will be posted for at least five days. Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified location(s) below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum: $20.11/hour / Maximum: $28.15/hour (Fresno, CA)
  • Minimum: $21.07/hour / Maximum: $29.50/hour (Sacramento, CA)
