Lowell General Hospital is looking for an LICSW, LMHC, or Master's Level Clinician to join the Crisis Team to work collaboratively with RNs, NPs, and MDs to provide evaluations and treatment planning for behavioral health patients who present to the Emergency Department.

Location: Lowell General Hospital Main Campus - 295 Varnum Ave - Lowell, MA

Location: Lowell General Hospital Saints Campus - 1 Hospital Dr - Lowell, MA

(Positions are onsite in the ED at both campuses, candidates must be able to travel between the two when required)

Hours: 36 hours overnight with differentials - some weekends and holiday's required

Job Overview

As a Behavioral Health Crisis Clinician, you will work on an interdisciplinary team of medical professionals to determine the appropriate care of patients who present to the Emergency Department in behavioral health crisis. Collaborates with outpatient providers, DMH, DCF, families, schools, etc. to determine the needs of each patient and to ensure that the patients are receiving the best, most responsive care available. Will also assist in finding follow-up placement for patients. Part of the hospital community, you will have the opportunity to be on a variety of hospital and community committees focused on the goal of providing and improving community based care.

Minimum Qualifications

1. MSW - In Social Work or Clinical Mental Health Counseling

2. LICSW, LMHC or license eligible

3. (3) years of experience in crisis evaluation and interventions with complex psychiatric patients preferred

4. Clinical skill in evaluation of children, adults, and seniors

5. Strength based orientation

6. Excellent interpersonal conflict resolution, and communication skills

7. Demonstrate ability to work independently with minimal supervision as part of a team

8. Fluency in a second language preferred but not required

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

1. Performs comprehensive psychosocial evaluations to assess the needs of behavioral health patients in the ED.

2. Coordinates information with other health professionals and collateral contacts to identify the appropriate level of care and establish an effective plan of action.

3. Documents assessments, interventions, and plans related to the patient's confidential medical record in accordance with HIPPA, Industry, and compliance standards.

4. Collaborates with ED team, PCPs and clinical staff on care management options.

5. Provides education/consultation as needed to other mental health care team members and to health care consumers.

6. Works with inpatient hospitals and step-down programs on the acceptance and transfer of patients who need a higher level of care.

7. Maintains current up-to-date knowledge of clinical and regulatory requirements.

8. Collaborates with other agencies for the education and benefit of the patient, staff, and hospital.

9. Performs analysis and report of various metrics as requested.

10. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.

11. Commits to recognize and respect cultural diversity for all customers (internal/external) through provision of culturally competent care.

12. Communicates effectively with internal/external customers with respect to differences in cultures, values, beliefs, and ages, utilizing diversity and interpreter services when needed.

13. Serves as a liaison with other service providers or community supports for the continuous improvement of services to patients.

14. Provides strength-based interventions and education for the clients to become actively engaged in their care, improve health literacy, and/or change their health behaviors (e.g., diet, medication adherence, compliance with doctor's visits).
