Position Overview
The Technical Manager is essential to ensuring project excellence and upholding the McAdams brand. As a leader in quality assurance and quality control, this role oversees project setup, execution, and closeout to deliver top-quality results. The Technical Manager provides technical expertise to resolve complex design challenges, supports project management to keep work on schedule and within budget, and coaches team members to
foster skill growth. Working closely with Project Managers and Designers, the Technical Manager ensures high-quality deliverables and mentors staff across all McAdams offices.

Key Responsibilities



  • Provide expertise to resolve complex design issues and maintain project quality, mentoring engineering and design staff
  • Conduct quality assurance checks on deliverables, ensuring compliance with standards and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to develop project plans, oversee drawing preparation, and manage staffing needs across all phases
  • Coordinate technical requirements with clients, regulatory agencies, and sub-consultants throughout the project lifecycle
  • Lead and guide the design team, assigning work, providing feedback, and conducting performance reviews
  • Mentor designers, CAD technicians, and engineers to foster professional growth and team cohesion
  • Serve as a key liaison between design staff, CAD technicians, and project managers, facilitating clear communication
  • Act as the main point of contact for technical matters with clients, coordinating adjustments as needed
  • Oversee the creation of civil engineering documents, including site, utility, stormwater, grading, and permitting plans
  • Ensure designs meet company standards and align with best practices in civil engineering
  • Lead technical training initiatives, sharing knowledge across teams and offices to enhance skills and standardize practices
  • Assist with project scope, budget, and schedule development, adjusting plans as project needs change
  • Support project pursuits and manage single-service line projects as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Skills + Experience



  • Four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited program in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field required
  • EI required; PE required
  • Minimum of 7+ years' experience in civil site design or related field required
  • Demonstrated expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D is essential
  • Strong understanding of local, state, and federal regulations related to land development, zoning, stormwater management, and permitting processes
  • Excellent communication, mentorship, and problem-solving skills; ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams

  • Work will primarily be in an office setting with limited opportunities to be exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

  • Must have visual acuity for viewing a computer screen, the ability to talk, hear and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Additional physical duties may be required as necessary.
