**Internal Posting Only*** The Hutchinson Campus consists of 173 acres with fifteen buildings including two multi-story residential student dormitories. The Hutchinson Campus is home to the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC). A unit of The University of Kansas (KU), KLETC serves as the central agency for all law enforcement training in the State of Kansas. KLETC manages a $12 million annual budget, 65 authorized FTE staff (augmented by more than 400 contract/adjunct staff annually), and trains nearly 15,000 students annually in residential, online, and outreach programs. KLETC serves 437 recognized law enforcement and police agencies in Kansas, providing basic training and continuing education programs throughout each fiscal year. KU also offers employees education and professional development opportunities. Position Overview The class coordinator in the basic training program leads a basic training class. The class coordinator is responsible for delivery of curriculum and competencies for instruction of basic training at KLETC. They manage the day to day operations of the class for attendance, instruction, evaluation, mentoring, agency notifications, absence/remedial make-up schedules, medial issues or minor disciplinary issues. They will supervise assigned instructor(s). Job Description 75%
Manages the effective operations, projects, function and/or process of a basic training class. To accomplish this function, the incumbent works with instructors, support staff, other departments, and law enforcement agencies across the state. The incumbent participates in a group of class coordinators to research and establish best practices for a facilitated mentoring model for their assigned class. The incumbent will interact with students outside of the traditional business day. Class coordinators work within the group to ensure consistency in class coordination. They use complex software to generate reports used to track the basic training data for students and campus records. Presents orientation to the students of a basic class and coordinates graduation ceremonies as Master of Ceremony. Schedules other KLETC instructional staff to conduct basic training programs. 10% The class coordinator has supervisory duties of other instructional staff. Utilizes and monitors diverse instructional methodologies based on proven adult learning principles incorporating participate-based learning, competency-based performance outcome training classes. Provides support to the Curriculum and Testing Administrator by reviewing new law enforcement curriculum for dissemination to Kansas law enforcement academy programs. Reviews curriculum content for changes based on law statute changes, court decisions or research. 5% Under the statutory authority of the Vice Provost/Director of Police Training to promulgate policies and procedures for the effective operation of the campus (including a student code of conduct), the class coordinator implements operating policies and procedures related to basic training and affecting 24 staff members, 150 residential students and law enforcement agencies statewide. 5% Acts on behalf of the Vice Provost/Director of Police Training with regard to immediate concerns of illness, injury, safety or minor discipline. 5% Interacts regularly with law enforcement administrators statewide, other unit directors and KU administrators.
