Material & Process Engineer

As a Materials & Process Engineer with Kaman Air Vehicles in Bloomfield, CT, you will join our outstanding Engineering team working on new initiatives including our unmanned helicopter program. The ideal candidate will be motivated to dig into challenges, possess strong capabilities in aircraft mechanical systems. The Engineering department at KAV includes individuals with diverse skill sets who are exposed not only to the design and analysis of systems, but also participate in the manufacturing, test, development, and certification processes.

Responsibilities



  • Define and Substantiate material and process selections on new designs and changes to existing designs
  • Understand and apply technical requirements from specifications and engineering drawings that impact materials and processes and provide guidance to multidisciplinary teams
  • Evaluate, compare and obtain properties data to guide material selection for component improvements
  • Evaluate impacts to material characteristics for initial part qualifications, subsequent process changes and repairs
  • Research component history and material properties to apply lessons learned from field experience, manufacturing evolutions, and development programs
  • Document and communicate investigation results through technical reports and presentations
  • Identify Materials and Process technology gaps and propose solutions for component durability or future designs
  • Experience in mechanical design engineering is a plus
  • Prepare and review engineering documentation and statements of work (SOW).
  • Evaluate and accept engineering documentation and participate in the validation and test of requirements and design.
  • Handle classified documentation in accordance with industrial security guide and covering practices.
  • Provide and maintain work documents and records that affect design, test evaluation and design alternatives.
  • Prepare written communication to senior management to define work status, schedule, scope, risk, problem areas, mitigation alternatives and pertinent information as requested.
  • Work in teams to accomplish common goals and objectives as defined by Management.
  • Communicate with subcontractors, suppliers and customers for data exchange; status discussion and resolution of engineering issues and activities.
  • Participate in engineering and management reviews, working groups and related activities and completion of action items assigned.
  • Liaison with external groups and organizations for the purpose of accomplishing assigned tasks.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain security clearance, as required


Qualifications

EXPERIENCE



  • 2 to 4 years of progressive experience in the applicable engineering field


EDUCATION



  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
