Shive-Hattery's Iowa City, IA office has an opening for a new graduate or early career Mechanical Engineer. This opportunity is a full-time position for a motivated individual with the ability to work and learn with the goal of acquiring a Professional Engineer license.



  • This position assists on a variety of design projects across the private and public sectors.
  • Collaborate with and assist senior engineers with entry-level mechanical engineering tasks.
  • Assist with mechanical design of building systems to include plumbing, heating, cooling, ventilation, fire protection, building automation, and industrial process systems.
  • Work in a team setting with mechanical team members and multi-disciplines teams including Electrical, Structural, Architectural, Interior Design and Civil.
  • Work on a variety of mechanical projects across our market sectors. Common projects include government facilities, healthcare, industrial, commercial and education facilities.
  • Produce construction drawings using Revit 3D modeling software.
  • Assist with performing onsite construction administration and construction observation services, including reporting and monitoring contractor's compliance with contract documents.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering from an accredited engineering school. Candidates with experience or education in HVAC will be prioritized.
  • Experience: new graduate or early career Design Professional; Prior intern experience in HVAC and building systems is a plus but not required.
  • License/Certification: Have taken and passed, or intent to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam to obtain official Engineering Intern designation.
  • Experienced in 3D modeling software, Revit preferred. Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel is desired.
  • Must be able to collaborate with other team members in a professional environment and have good interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to engineering detail.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
  • Climb ladders and work off of elevated platforms and open grating.
  • Wear personal protective equipment required for specific clients and sites.
  • Pass drug screening tests and background screening, required for some client sites.
