This position will perform professional accounting activities for the Earth Science units within the College of Science, reporting through the centralized business operations unit. It will require basic knowledge and professional application of accounting principles, practices, and techniques in accordance with university financial procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed accounting assignments as part of a group supporting budgets totaling over $48M for five departments. This will require a basic knowledge of accounting theory and principles. Work is subject to general review by senior accounting personnel.
  • Provide general analysis support in various accounting functions such as A/R, A/P, Payroll, Cost accounting, etc. This will includes reviewing and assist in preparing cost accounting information, ensure transactions are processed accurately, comply with UA policies and Sponsored policies, and make corrections consulting with senior accountant or business manager.
  • Monitor accounts and perform monthly reconciliation with basic analysis of reports/ledgers comparing to university systems. These will consisting of designated, gift, foundation, state, and other funding sources, ensuring compliance with external sponsors, University of Arizona, University of Arizona Foundation, and governmental policies and regulations.
  • Utilize UAccess systems to review and monitor account transactions, account budgets, employee payroll and distributions, balances, and account reconciliations. Work with senior accountant or business manager to provide explanations and recommendations for budget variances.
  • Initiate journal entries/transactions in UAccess Financial such as General Error Corrections, Distribution of Income and Expense, Salary Expense Transfers, and Transfer of Funds to move expenses to appropriate account, object code, or fund accounts. Final review/approval by senior accountant or business manager.
  • Review and/or prepare business office documents including Purchase Orders, Reimbursements, PCard purchases, Internal Billings, and edits to Assets. Help submit requisitions to set up Purchase Orders with order quotations for specific equipment/research supplies and/or blanket purchase orders. Assist department labs with Purchase Order Amendments as needed. Set up all reoccurring blanket Purchase Orders for the upcoming fiscal year as directed.
  • Serve as a PCard liaison and reconciler for the unit. Work with senior accountant/BM in addressing queries from the Financial Services Office - Compliance regarding PCard transactions. Determine that funds are available for expenditures or requisitions ensuring expenses are posted to proper account. Monitor fund/account balances, and notify supervisor when limits are reached.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for departmental accounts (Non-Sponsored Projects), cost projections, and financial analysis.
  • Prepare special reports/projects as requested. Maintain and archive transaction files.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • 1 year of relevant work experience required.
