Position Highlights

The Center of Clinical and Interprofessional Skills at the University of Arizona invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Standardized Patient. Standardized Patients (SPs) support the clinical education of health sciences students/learners by portraying specific clinical scenarios or patient presentation accurately and consistently. They provide individualized feedback to learners on their clinical skills, interpersonal skills, and professionalism in a constructive manner. SPs evaluate the adequacy of the interview, physical exam, and communication skills. Students/learners are from the College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Veterinary Medicine, as well as outside clients.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • For each assigned educational event memorize the key history-taking and physical exam elements of the particular patient presentation to be portrayed. Includes group meetings, home study, rehearsals, and assignments with students/learners.
  • Evaluate student/learner performance and provide verbal and/or non-verbal feedback. Receive constructive feedback about individual interactions with learners and peers.
  • Individual professional development.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

  • When working in exam room, incumbent will wear patient hospital gown and while under pandemic-related restrictions must wear required PPE (N95 or KN95 face mask).
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
