The Opportunity

We are seeking a Pipeline/Compressor technician who will perform a combination of duties pertaining to the transmission and/or storage of natural gas. The successful candidate will act as a fill-in operator during absences of the normally assigned facility Operator or whenever continuous, around the clock manning of the assigned facility is required.

This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.

This position is represented by USW 573 and the filling of the position is subject to the terms and conditions of the governing collective bargaining agreement.

What you'll do

Compressor & Pipeline Operations

  • Initiate and complete work orders utilizing SAP
  • Adhere to environmental policies by collecting samples, following appropriate reporting procedures and associated cleanup of any spills
  • Oversee contractors and vendors while on-site
  • Follow proper collecting procedures when obtaining liquid/solid sampling or changing coupons
  • Assist in the compilation of shipping manifests
  • Assist in planning of work and participate as necessary in safety and/or team meetings and discussions
  • Interact with landowners and federal/state/county officials in a helpful and respectful manner
  • Locate and mark underground pipeline using required equipment
  • Address Miss Utility requests or state one-call requests in accordance with state/federal regulations
  • Assist in construction activities
  • Operate various power and/or pneumatic tools
  • Perform valve and/or operator maintenance
  • Operate methanol injectors/pumps
  • Change meter charts, read meters, investigate leakage complaints and perform facility patrols
  • Make field sketches showing location of facilities and location of readings
  • Identify atmospheric corrosion through inspection
  • Transfer liquids on and off trucks, tanks, and fuel tanks using proper pumping methods

Pipeline Operations

  • Perform all necessary functions related to gas flow and pipelines including direction, flow, pressure, venting, air movers, etc.
  • Repair leaks in transmission and/or storage lines
  • Locate/remove freezes in pipelines
  • Lay temporary water and gas lines
  • Assist in the selection and preparation of roads to facilities
  • Assist in the installation of dehydrators and gas separators
  • Operate, maintain, and repair dehydrators, methanol injectors and gas separators
  • Gauge (with spring gauge or dead weight test, including electronics) open flow and rock pressure on gas wells and complete appropriate documentation by entering readings from gauges
  • Valve and/or operator maintenance and repair of natural gas lines to blow drips and to keep lines free of fluid
  • Paint pipeline related facilities
  • Operate and maintain launchers/receivers and pigging valves
  • Check rectifiers to ascertain if they are working properly
  • Assist in using test amp meter
  • Read voltage from line or well to soil anode and record appropriately
  • Maintain right-of-way and well locations, M&R locations, and valve setting locations by cutting grass, brush, trimming trees, and cleaning
  • Repair fences and road gates
  • Patrol and maintain facilities
  • Assist in making soil surveys by using soil resistance tester at specified distance intervals from well, recording direct reading from same indicating condition of soil, using volt-meter to obtain voltage reading from pipe to soil electrode and recording the same, using soil resistant tester at specified distance intervals from well to locate low resistant soil and recording same

Compressor Operations

  • Change oil, filters, clean parts, haul materials, and paint
  • Gauge tanks
  • Handle various fluids such as used oil, pipeline liquids, and basement wastewater
  • General housekeeping duties
  • OSHA safety inspections (i.e. fire extinguishers, slings, ropes, chains, etc.)
  • Notify leader of suspected equipment malfunctioning and/or problems
  • Complete work orders, enter data into the work management system, create new work orders, etc. in SAP
  • Other tasks as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic mathematical and computer skills
  • Ability to read and understand panel/operational maps
  • Ability to work with electronic TC Energy mapping, Google Earth, and electronic underground locating system (Utilisphere, Miss Utility)
  • Ability to operate GPS unit and work with Eagle Eye and Aerial Team
  • Ability to work with Gas Control and follow flow order instructions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in the use of hand tools and precision measuring instruments
  • Experience repairing pipeline leaks and locating and marking pipelines
  • Experience with valve operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair
  • Experience operating and maintaining high pressure natural gas pipelines and/or facilities
  • Mechanical knowledge, skills, and experience
  • SAP experience

This position requires candidates to

  • Successfully qualify for specific job tasks per DOT and Company operator qualification requirements
  • Train and then fill-in for station Operator to include shift work
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, to include drug and alcohol testing
  • Be confined-space trained
  • Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
  • Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures
  • Pass respiratory fit test and use equipment such as SCBA and other respirators
