Department Information

Housing and Residence Life is passionate about the Georgia Tech residential student experience. With 97% of all first-year students choosing to live on campus, we create spaces and opportunities for Yellow Jackets to grow and connect from their first day of college through their graduate studies. We are proud to support our students personal development and academic endeavors while providing a safe and comfortable living environment.

Our department is a large and complex organization supporting over 8,700 on-campus residents among 49 traditional halls, suites, and apartments, some of which were constructed for the 1996 Summer Olympics. Our team of 200+ professional staff and 300+ student staff from six departments support residents directly and indirectly with their unique talents. We are housed within the Student Engagement and Well-Being division, that includes many student service offices.

We provide physical, programmatic, and technological systems to enhance the quality of life on campus, support the academic needs of resident students, and complement the academic goals of the institute.

Job Summary

Directs operations and maintenance for a sector of the unit's diverse portfolio of campus facilities, including offices, student lounges and recreation spaces, residential student rooms, suites, and apartments. Provide maintenance oversight for a year-round, 24/7 operation.

Services managed include skilled trades (carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing) and general maintenance. Responsible for ensuring unit-managed facilities are well maintained. Responsible for leading a team, setting employee goals, assessing employee performance, and

providing feedback, and making pay recommendations.

  • This position will interact on a consistent basis with the unit Human Resources and other institute management, contractors, and students
  • This position will generally advise and counsel the unit and other Institute management, contractors, and students.
  • This position will supervise assigned staff.
Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -

Manages, reviews, prioritizes, and assesses work order completion within a sector of campus and ensures timely and quality completion. Responsible for developing and managing quality assurance programs to ensure work is completed to unit standards.

Job Duty 2 -

Lead and manage all operations and maintenance aspects for a campus sector consistent with unit-established standards.

Job Duty 3 -

Manage, oversee, and coordinate all personnel actions for direct and indirect reports, including the learning and development of individuals and teams. Supervise multiple trade staff, including selecting, training, motivating, and providing corrective action up to and including dismissal.

Job Duty 4 -

Collaborate with the unit facilities leadership team to establish capital planning priorities, including improvement projects/planning and in house-projects

Job Duty 5 -

Collaborate with unit facilities leadership team to develop, implement, and maintain operating policies and procedures related to unit facility managed service; establish policies and procedures related to coverage schedules, after-hour support, and emergency response.

Job Duty 6 -

Conducts weekly and bi-weekly meetings with facilities teams and contractors, as appropriate, to provide direction, input, solutions, and strategy

Job Duty 7 -

Coordinate with the unit facilities leadership team to oversee and address facility conditions and improvements using Facility Condition Assessment Reports (FCAR) and work order trends for a campus sector.

Job Duty 8 -

Collaborate with unit Warehouse to manage equipment, supplies, and tool inventory to ensure the timely closing of work orders

Job Duty 9 -

Develop and implement defined maintenance plans, including annual surge plans, to ensure buildings are turned and maintenance is performed between semesters for new residents' arrival. Responsible for staffing, on-call support, and making decisions regarding the maintenance and upkeep of 24/7/365 residential facilities

Job Duty 10 -

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience

Six to eight years of job-related experience

Certification, License, or Permits:

A valid and unrestricted Georgia Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field

Preferred Experience

  • Familiar with requests for proposals (RFPs), request for quotes (RFQs)
  • Experience working with Metasys, AiM, StarRez, and similar software packages
  • Experience managing facility contracts
  • Experience writing Statement of Works (SOW)[MD3] [MM4]

  • Certifications or licenses preferred for this job
  • Certified Education Facilities Professional (CEFP)
  • Certified Facilities Management Professional (FMP)
Proposed Salary

Pay Range: $75,268-$102,364/yr.
