Position Highlights The General Maintenance Mechanic, reporting to the General Maintenance Superintendent, plays an integral part of a team responsible for the repair and maintenance of University dorms, apartments and related building systems. Among the various duties and responsibilities outlined below, this position will require driving University vehicles and/or golf carts.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Repairs, replaces and/or installs a wide range of building items; including but not limited to doors and screens, casement furnishings, floor coverings, ceramic tile, light fixtures and other electrical fixtures and appliances, plumbing fixtures, window coverings, and other items typical to large residential environments.
  • Performs general painting, plumbing and carpentry repairs, such as, unstopping plumbing fixtures, resetting electrical circuit breakers, replacing ballasts, minor furniture repair, caulking and paint touch up.
  • Repairs HVAC fan coils including but not limited to motors, speed switches, coil fin cleaning and filters.
  • Performs inspections including but not limited to security lights, doors and fire extinguishers.
  • Performs facility inspections including but not limited to electronic work request system TMA building condition and outside grounds condition.
  • Responsible for pest control, inspects identifies source, sprays or dusts chemical solutions, sets up baits and traps.
  • Maintains inventory, tools and equipment in assigned area. Fire extinguisher replacement.
  • Communicates with residence hall staff, other Housing staff members and student residents on status of work requests and related needs.
  • Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet Housing and University goals and objectives.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Skill in applying building and equipment maintenance/repair technique.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Knowledge of building and equipment maintenance/repair techniques.
  • Knowledge of cleaning and repair of heating/cooling fan coil units.
  • Knowledge and skill in applying building and equipment maintenance/repair technique.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Apprenticeship program, technical training experience required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Journeyman level position.
  • General maintenance experience in a large residential environment, i.e. residence hall/dorm, apartments, hotels, etc.
  • Experience with NEC, UBC and UFC codes.
  • Floor coverings and wall base treatments (VCT, Carpet, and Ceramic tile) installation, repairs and maintenance experience.
