JOB SUMMARY
Works under general supervision to provide routine technical assistance in performance of assignments requiring basic knowledge of fundamental techniques and practices related to particular field of science.
The Research Technician will provide critical support to research projects and assist with experiments in the Nicastro lab. The duties include, but are not limited to organizing and maintaining the wet-lab infrastructure and operations (e.g. bench-top instruments, cold-room, cell culture rooms, purchasing lab supplies), culture various single-celled organisms like Chlamydomonas and Tetrahymena, biochemical and molecular biology experiments (e.g. PCR, nucleic acid extraction, transforming E. coli, SDS PAGE, biochemical sample preparation for mass-spec). In addition to Nicastro lab members, the candidate will also communicate with collaborators and service engineers of wet-lab equipment. We welcome candidates who plan to apply to PhD programs in the future and will support their aspirations.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required
- Education
Completion of two (2) years of college or specialized training in histology, medical technology or relevant field or
High School graduation including courses in basic sciences such as physics, chemistry, biology, etc.
- Experience
1 year of experience as Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with Completion of two (2) years of college or
3 years of laboratory experience including two years as Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with High School graduation
JOB DUTIES
- Assists in conducting experiments and working on research problems in such fields as physiology, bacteriology, tissue culture, chemistry, and other related fields by performing basic, routine, and least complex procedures as prescribed by supervisor.
- Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
- Records resulting data in accordance with established methods. Confers with supervisor concerning results obtained, and modifies procedures in accordance with instruction of supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
