JOB SUMMARY
The Manager of Social Media is responsible for developing content and managing strategy for The New York Historical's primary social media channels, including organic and paid content.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Social media content creation: Produce and implement platform-specific creative content for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Tiktok, YouTube, and Tumblr posts. Create and manage content calendar and community engagement.
- Analytics and Strategy: Track and share analytics through reports, Social Media Working Group meetings, and bi-monthly board reports. Update social media strategy as-needed through data-driven decisions.
- Campaigns: Create and implement long-term strategy including exhibition campaigns and collaborative museum campaigns. Create exhibition and initiative toolkits as needed.
- Paid social advertising: Manage copy and graphics for paid ad campaigns, and, when called for, design and implement ads and create target audiences in Meta.
- Outreach and audience development: Cultivate partnerships and find opportunities for collaboration and cross-promotions with influencers, institutions, and others. Explore untapped possibilities to develop new audiences.
- Graphic design: Design visual assets for social media to creatively promote exhibitions, permanent collections, and programs. Work with Graphic Designer on additional social media projects as needed.
- Video and rich media: Produce digital videos, animated GIFs, and others to promote The New York Historical's mission and initiatives. Work with the Video Producer to record social media video projects from ideation through post-production, including writing, shooting, and editing, as well as booking spaces and speakers.
- Project management: Manage bi-monthly cross-departmental Social Media Working Group.
- Staff education: Advocate for social media integration in front-facing content-creating departments including curatorial, DCHM, public programs, and others.
- In-gallery social media: Manage in-gallery social media presence through social media signage and, when possible, social-media friendly immersive environments and backdrops.
- Must be able to cover occasional evening and weekend programs.

REQUIREMENTS
- Candidates must have a minimum combined 3 years of professional experience in the following areas:
- Writing for social media with strong editing skills;
- Expert understanding of Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, as well as other existing and emerging platforms such as YouTube, Tumblr, Pinterest, and others;
- Familiarity with/interest in American history and working with cultural institutions;
- BA in Journalism, English, Communications or other related degree;
- Rich media creation including graphics, animated gifs, HTML5 animation;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple and competing priorities;
- Experience writing about history, culture, and sensitive topics preferred;
- Video production, including shooting on a DSLR, producing, and editing preferred;
- Experience with Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and/or After Effects preferred.

This is largely a sedentary role using a computer; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stoop as necessary.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The expected salary range for this position is $70,000-$80,000 per year. The successful candidate will be offered a salary within this range based on specific factors such as their individual qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
