THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a seasonal Park Resource Ranger at Pymatuning State Park, you will take on essential public safety responsibilities that directly contribute to our recreational facilities' safe and enjoyable use. Your expertise will be key in interpreting park rules and regulations, ensuring that all visitors can fully appreciate what the park offers. You will actively inform park visitors about our diverse facilities, features, and programs while maintaining high safety and compliance standards throughout the park. Your proactive approach will include patrolling the area, directing traffic, and educating guests on park guidelines, all while keeping our information displays up-to-date and guiding visitors away from hazardous areas. In addition, you will conduct thorough inspections of park facilities to ensure safety, report any violations promptly, and manage safety equipment effectively.

Your role will also extend to managing resources such as goose populations and invasive species, which are crucial for maintaining the park's ecosystem. You will play a vital role in facilitating community events like Spooktacular and the Great Pymatuning Shoreline Clean Up, demonstrating strong leadership and teamwork. Additionally, you will support the park office during staff shortages, ensuring smooth operations across the board. Your contributions will be invaluable in enhancing the visitor experience at Pymatuning State Park.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal Full-time employment without benefits.
  • Shift hours and days vary due to operational need, with a 30-minute lunch
  • Weekends, holidays, and all shifts as needed at 37.5 hours per week

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.
  • All employees must obtain valid certification in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR approved by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent within 60 days of employment.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
  • In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks around the time of hire and thereafter every 5 years.
