Description

Ardelyx is a publicly traded commercial biopharmaceutical company founded with a mission to discover, develop and commercialize innovative first-in-class medicines that meet significant unmet medical needs. Ardelyx has two commercial products approved in the United States, IBSRELA (tenapanor) and XPHOZAH (tenapanor). Ardelyx has agreements for the development and commercialization of tenapanor outside of the U.S. Kyowa Kirin commercializes PHOZEVEL (tenapanor) for hyperphosphatemia in Japan. A New Drug Application for tenapanor for hyperphosphatemia has been submitted in China with Fosun Pharma. Knight Therapeutics commercializes IBSRELA in Canada.

The Director Field Medical Affairs - Gastroenterology is responsible for leading and managing a field based medical team, including accountability for execution and attainment of medical objectives in alignment with the Medical Affairs Leadership. The individual will be accountable for the team to engage in high quality communications regarding the science and clinical applications to variety of external stakeholders on a regional/national/local level, as well as obtain important insights about current practice, treatment landscape, and emerging scientific and clinical data in a fully compliant manner.
Core Responsibilities
  • Create a results-driven, solution-oriented environment which holds every MSL accountable for delivering individual and organizational goals and objectives.
  • Develop strategic business plans for Medical Affairs execution and the achievement of goals and objectives.
  • Provide each MSL with direction, guidance, and support to ensure optimal execution.
  • Provide to MSLs to enhance their product and disease state knowledge, customer targeting, time management, and resource allocation toensure each MSL is effectively managing their territory.
  • Evaluate and provide input and guidance into key decisions, such as organizational changes, new positions, or expansions of the team.
  • Foster and reinforce a culture of compliance, ensuring that all Medical Affairs activities and actions by MSL team members comply with all laws and regulations and company compliance policies and procedures.
  • Address performance issues promptly and consistent with company guidelines and policies.
  • Proactively engage with key customers, decision-influencers, decision-makers, and account groups to directly represent Ardelyx in a leadership capacity, to achieve company objectives.
Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree, PhD or PharmD, with 7-10 years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, with at least 6 years of field medical experience
  • 4 years of field managementment experience preferred
  • Knowledge of therapeutic area preferred
  • Proven leader with the ability to engage and foster collaboration, influence others and integrate functions, teams, people, processes, and systems to drive results.
  • Track record of effective territory management with consistent achievement of KPIs.
  • Experience in measuring performance of employees against established goals and objectives and effectively guide individuals through organization path based on interests, capabilities, and organizational needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate ideas and data
  • Strong clinical acumen to facilitate rapport and earn respect of internal and external collaborators
  • Thorough understanding of the laws, regulations, and external policies applicable to the sales and marketing of pharmaceutical products to physicians and healthcare organizations.
  • Ability to travel >50% of the time, including field visits, medical congresses, and business meetings
The anticipated annualized base pay range for this full-time position is $214,867-$262,615. Ardelyx utilizes industry data to ensure that our compensation is competitive and aligned with our industry peers. Actual base pay will be determined based on a variety of factors, including years of relevant experience, training, qualifications, and internal equity. The compensation package may also include an annual bonus target and equity awards, subject to eligibility and other requirements.
Ardelyx also offers a robust benefits package to employees, including a 401(k) plan with generous employer match, 12 weeks of paid parental leave, up to 12 weeks of living organ and bone marrow leave, equity incentive plans, health plans (medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision),life insurance and disability, flexible time off, annual Winter Holiday shut down, and at least 11 paid holidays.
