Summary of Job Duties:The Research Agronomy program is searching for a Program Associate-Research Agronomy to assume a 12-month, benefits eligible position located at the newly constructed Northeast Rice Research and Extension Center (NERREC). The NERREC is 7 miles south of a major agricultural and economic hub, Jonesboro, AR, and 7 miles north of Harrisburg, AR. This position is responsible for collecting, organizing, analyzing and presenting agronomic data to assess the value of different production practices to Arkansas farms. This includes, but is not limited to:
*alternative rice irrigation methods, including furrow-irrigated rice (FIR) and alternate wetting and drying (AWD) rice
*general rice, soybean, and corn production practices, including but not limited to cultural practices, general fertility, irrigation, and crop protection
*collaboration with extension specialists and other researchers, both internal and external

Duties will include but are not limited to: data management and analyses; planting and management of field trials including spraying, irrigating, weeding, and harvesting; supervision and maintenance of off-station trials; and supervision and training of program technicians, students, and temporary staff. The candidate will be responsible for collaborating with University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture (UADA) faculty and staff, USDA-ARS researchers, other outside researchers, and industry cooperators to help build a next-level research program that is highly regarded by our clientele. Our team will pay extra attention to detail and provide high quality and unbiased results to all clientele. The candidate will also be responsible for producing annual reports, factsheets, press releases, website and social media content, and other educational materials to be utilized by UADA personnel and key stakeholders. The candidate will be required to prepare posters, papers, and/or presentations for various meetings and conferences, which will include occasional out-of-state travel.

The Program Associate will operate in an independent, decision-making role in the planning and execution of programs. With that being said, integrity and personal accountability are key to success in this role. Work objectives will be coordinated with the Assistant Professor-Research Agronomist, but project implementation and management are primarily the responsibilities of the Program Associate. Program Associates are expected to contribute effectively to conceptual framework, program design, result dissemination, educational activities and the pursuit of extramural financial support. Candidate must have a valid driver's license and be able to lift a 50 pound bag of seed. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, or a related field plus three (3) years of experience conducting agriculture-related research OR a related Master's degree is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Familiarity with SAS, R, or another statistical analysis software
  • Experience analyzing and summarizing data
  • Experience in or around agricultural equipment
  • Experience in producing annual reports and peer-reviewed publications
