*The City of Peoria is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer* Description DEPARTMENT: PUBLIC WORKS / TRAFFIC OPERATIONS DIVISION LOCATION: 3505 DRIES LANE, PEORIA, ILLINOIS HOURS: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. - Monday through Friday This is skilled electrical work in the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical traffic control devices, wiring in public buildings, fire circuits, boxes and street light maintenance. Involves the application of electrical, electronic and electro-mechanical skills in the field and in the shop; and emergency standby duty on a scheduled rotating basis; with some exposure to electrical, mechanical and height hazards. Work is performed under supervision and is subject to inspection upon completion. Examples of Duties The purpose of this position is to maintain the safety and proper functioning of the City's infrastructure. This is accomplished by installing, maintaining, and repairing Traffic Control and Street Lighting devices and public building wiring. Other duties include keeping up with inventory and operating Line and Lift Trucks. Performs electrical maintenance, repairs, and upgrades by maintaining a working knowledge of equipment; adapting to firmware upgrades; connecting transmitter to in-ground wiring; and handling conductors in cabinets and hand holes. Performs street light repair by replacing damaged poles, concrete bases, hand holes, and broken conduits and maintaining safety techniques while repairing high voltage circuits. Performs traffic signal maintenance by programming signal timing plans into master controller and inspecting and observing component operations. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED supplemented by courses in electronics and solid state circuitry, three to five years experience in the skilled maintenance and repair of electronic equipment, a valid CDL Class "B" or higher driver's license within 6 months of hire required, certified with International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) within one year of hire. Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job considered. Supplemental Information Knowledge of the principles of electricity and electrical circuits; occupational hazards of the work and of necessary safety precautions; and of standard practices, methods, tools, and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and electronic devices. Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions and establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other City employees. Skill in the use and care of hand and bench tools and electronic testing equipment for electro-mechanical and solid state devices.
