JOB TITLE:

Facilities Specialist - Housing

JOB PURPOSE:

Perform general grounds maintenance, general maintenance and minor repair work to designated buildings and related equipment; rotate 24-hour on-call duty.

This position has been deemed essential as addressed in the University of Wyoming's Employee Handbook . Employees in essential positions may be required to work during emergency closures and winter closure based on the nature of their job duties and the reasons for the closure.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform minor maintenance and repair to residence halls and apartments including:
  • Drywall and paint repair
  • Minor plumbing and electrical repair
  • Light bulb replacement
  • Smoke detector maintenance
  • Appliance, hot water, and heat system maintenance
  • Flooring and cove base installation
  • Tub surround installation and repair
  • Cabinet and countertop repair and installation
  • Window and door repair
  • 24 hour on-call duty rotation
  • Perform grounds cleanup, and lawn care
  • Snow removal
  • Input work order information into a computerized database system and close out work orders as needed
  • Refer major repairs and maintenance to UW Operations
  • Maintain tools and equipment; operate and maintain grounds equipment and sprinkler systems
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations
  • Repair and replacement of door locks, including electronic and simplex locks training provided

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Apartment and residence hall room turns
  • Paint apartments/rooms; lay carpet, as directed
  • Move and repair furniture, including upholstery, replacement
  • Apartment inspections
  • Assist in the determination of charges/fees for repairing items
  • Monthly fire extinguisher inspections
  • May assist in cleaning apartments/rooms
  • May assist with pest control

WORK LOCATION ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States. Sponsorship for H1-B work authorization or work visa is not available for this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: 2 years work-related experience

Required licensure, certification, registration, or other requirements:
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.
  • Some positions may require a valid Wyoming Commercial Pesticide Applicator's license or the ability to obtain license at the next available testing session.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must demonstrate strong knowledge in the correct usage of tools, power tools, and equipment related to general maintenance work.
  • Knowledgeable in drywall and paint repair.
  • Ability to perform minor electrical and plumbing work.
  • Ability to perform minor appliance repair.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Cable TV issues.
  • Must have the physical skills and endurance to move about campus and the buildings to fulfill daily maintenance tasks and activities.
  • Self-motivated and shows initiative to start and complete tasks.
  • Must be familiar with and follow safety requirements and precautions.
  • Detail-oriented with good troubleshooting skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, interacting positively with a diverse populations, and maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to adapt to changing duties and responsibilities with the advancement of technological improvements.
  • Ability to respond to emergency requests outside of regular work hours.
