The Microsoft Defender for Endpoint (MDE) Research Team is dedicated to safeguarding over 1 billion endpoint devices globally from cybersecurity threats using cutting-edge technology and innovation. As cyber-attacks grow more sophisticated, MDE assists consumers and enterprises in detecting, investigating, and automatically disrupting advanced attacks and data breaches on their networks. We are looking for a new team member who is passionate about data science and data engineering to help us leverage the latest research and innovation to protect Defender customers. Our team operates as an agile unit, experimenting with the latest tools and technologies to design and implement solutions for critical business challenges, such as measuring protection effectiveness and applying generative AI to enhance Defender protection. ResponsibilitiesAs a Senior Data Scientist, you will: Use data science and statistical processes and methodologies to design, implement and visualize measurements relevant to Microsoft Defender business priorities leveraging both structured and unstructured data.Explore and analyze implications of data to determine the most significant elements, identify common elements and themes, generate alternatives and understand consequences of each alternative and derive relevant insights and conclusions to influence investment strategy.Contribute to creation and orchestration of data pipelines and data quality validation over large, complex data sources and schemas, Facilitate the quality of applied science experiments through exploration and development of usable data sets, data visualization, monitoring, and alerting pipelines.Influence leaders across Microsoft Security to ensure cutting-edge technology is being matured in a practical way that meets key business opportunities of significant scope and impact.Collaborate and communicate effectively with stakeholders including other defenders including researchers, engineers, threat hunters, and product managers on business objectives, dependencies/requirements, and results.Produce reliable and performant code, conduct design and code reviews to ensure alignment with standards and best practices, and follows release management policies to ensure data integrity, compliance, system stability and responsible AI standards.
