Overview

CJE SeniorLife Tamarisk NorthShore has been welcoming older adults 65 and better since opening in August 2020. This exceptional independent senior living community (managed by CJE SeniorLife, a proud affiliate of Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago) boasts 240 elegant apartment residences. The primary purpose of this job position is to prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, with our established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Executive Chef, Manager, Team Leader and/or Director of Food Service to assure that quality food service is provided at all times.

Compensation: $19.84 per hour.

Dues-paying membership in Service Employees International Union Local 73 may be a condition of employment.

Shift

Weekends and evenings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities



  • Produces and cooks food according to menus, recipes and portions established by the Executive Chef.
  • Ensures all meals are produced on a timely manner and line is ready 30 prior to each meal period.
  • Ensures proper food and equipment temperature are maintain day according to guidelines.
  • Ensures pre-meal tasting plates are ready for all pre-shift meetings.
  • Must be knowledgeable and possess ability to operate applicable kitchen equipment, with working knowledge of food items.
  • Maintains proper food handling, safety and sanitation standards while preparing food, serving food and clean-up.
  • Sets up and breaks down cook line in orderly fashion and transport product to serving area and proper storing as needed.
  • Keeps work area and serving line equipment clean and adhere to sanitation cleaning schedules.
  • Ensures quality and visual presentation of food.
  • Exhibits proper cutting skills and knife safety adherence.
  • Assists other associates to ensure all kitchen duties are completed within given time constraints.
  • Exhibits a cheerful and helpful manner when dealing with customers.
  • Ensures that food supply stocks are rotated on a FIFO system and perishables are labeled, dated, and stored properly.
  • Performs all duties in adherence to CJE SeniorLife standards.
  • Strives to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices.
  • Maintains a positive and profession demeanor toward all residents, visitors and coworkers.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures of CJE SeniorLife. Adhere to all directives, policies, and procedures of the local community.
  • Adheres to specifications and guidelines established by chef/director.
  • Other tasks as assigned.


Requirements

Education and/or Experience



  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations



  • Employee must pass Illinois Food Handler Course within 60 days of hire.
  • Three attempts will be provided to pass this course within the first 60 days of hire.
  • In the event that the associate does not pass the course termination will be pursued.
  • This certification must be maintained throughout the course of employment.
  • Must meet state and local health requirements for food handlers.
  • Must possess valid food handlers permit.
