Position Highlights

Join our dynamic team as the Division Chair of Nurse Health Education (NHE) at the University of Arizona, College of Nursing (CON). In this position, you will provide strategic leadership, coordination, and supervision for NHE division that includes three pre-licensure programs; traditional BSN, BSN-Integrative Health (BSN-IH), and Master's Entry into Nursing Practice (MEPN). Collaborating with the Deans and other leaders, you will drive growth, operational effectiveness, and alignment with program needs and strategic goals.

As the Division Chair, you will work closely with the Associate Deans and Program Directors, playing a critical role in advancing the CON's vision and mission. You will be responsible for faculty mentoring, career development, scholarship, and program success in pre-licensure programs. Creating a collegial and supportive environment, you will implement innovative instructional strategies that align with institutional goals, student aspirations, and national trends.

The position is expected to be appointed at 1.0 fiscal year FTE. The successful candidate will meet the requirements of a career track faculty according to the college and university guidelines. The assignment will be negotiated at time of hire and annually thereafter with the Dean to include responsibilities such as teaching, research, service and/or scholarly work.

Duties & Responsibilities

Effective Overall Leadership & Management:

  • Uphold and reflect the established Mission, Goals and Values of the CON.
  • Collaborate with Associate Dean of Academic Affairs to ensure close coordination, while providing guidance, direction, and supervision to NHE faculty on local and national issues, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Seek opportunities for new synergies between programs and interprofessional opportunities with other health sciences students- creating an environment of effective and mutually-supportive communications and
    collaborations.
  • Make organizational and operational recommendations to the Deans, Program Directors and Faculty to provide regular, comprehensive progress updates on nursing education issues, opportunities, challenges, and successes.
  • Works with departmental peer review committees and program directors to complete annual reviews for faculty who teach in the NHE Division.
  • Works with Program Directors and Faculty to complete annual workload letters with course assignments.
  • Collaboratively manages the electronic systems relevant to didactic and clinical teaching assignments and evaluation.

Department-Specific Leadership & Management:

  • Works with the NHE Program Directors and Faculty to provide strategic and day-to-day operational leadership for the NHE programs.
  • Under direction of Associate Dean hiring authority, oversees NHE faculty hiring processes, accountable for orientation and mentorship of new faculty and staff for educational programs.
  • In collaboration with Associate Dean of Research, strategically leads funding initiatives (e.g., HRSA, state-level funding, etc.) to bring resources to support NHE programs.

Teaching/Learning:

  • Teaches courses in the NHE program within the scope of their expertise.
  • Acts as advisor/mentor to NHE students creating a learning environment that promotes achieving expected program outcomes.

Research and Scholarship:

  • Develops and maintains academic excellence through educational scholarship in their area of expertise.
  • Disseminate their scholarly work at local, regional, national, and international professional conferences and journal publications.
  • Leads teams to obtain funding to support student education and training.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of trends in the future of healthcare and the evolving role of nurses.
  • Ability to think critically and problem-solve to achieve program objectives.
  • Ability to work within a collaborative environment with diverse populations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned doctoral degree in nursing or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Five (5) years of experience in nursing education.
  • Holds or being eligible for RN license in Arizona.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Recognition as a leader in nursing education, demonstrated
    by active involvement in national organizations.
  • Established record of scholarly contributions, including
    peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and funded
    research.
  • Interprofessional education experience.
