Responsibilities:

  • An ideal candidate will lead the projects on developing novel scalable processes and formulation delivery systems in stabilizing enzymes and/or microbes for extended storage and efficacy during product applications.
  • Develop innovative assays and analytical techniques to characterize and understand the failure modes of formulation stability.
  • Identify, develop, and implement new value-creating technologies, products, or processes to address business challenges and opportunities.
  • Provide technical guidance to others while collaborating with cross-functional teams, including but not limited to scientific, manufacturing, applications, regulatory, and business teams.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, data summaries, protocols, and other technical and regulatory documentation.
  • Lead specific technical segments and take the initiative to assume responsibility for highly challenging technical projects and complex problems.
  • Utilize meaningful literature searches and market knowledge to form hypotheses and recommend approaches to solve diverse and poorly defined problems.
  • Support multiple parallel formulation projects while effectively updating and communicating with internal stakeholders and teams
  • Participate in developing the intellectual property strategy and file patent applications in collaboration with peers and the legal team
  • Use of statistical software and experimental design to model, predict, and execute complex formulation and mixture designs
  • Enhance professional knowledge through continuous engagement with scientific literature and networking.
  • Contribute to skill development and mentoring of junior formulation scientists.

Job Requirements:

  • A PhD with 3 years of experience, an MS with 6 years of experience, or a BS with 10 years of experience in microbiology, biochemistry, biochemical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with formulation process technologies such as freeze-drying, spray drying, fluid bed granulation, cryopreservation and microencapsulation, with specific focus on stabilizing enzymes and live microbes.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years industrial or academic employment in the design, development and scale up of stable enzyme or microbial formulations.
  • Formulation experience in human health and/or pharmaceutical applications is a plus.
  • Proven track record of success in developing and scaling up processes/products.
  • Team player, able to work with multi-disciplinary team and external collaborators
  • Exposure or interest in robotics and high throughput.
  • Experience using statistical software for modeling and communicating large data sets.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent changes, manage multiple projects in parallel, and thrive in a fast-paced R&D environment.
  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills.
