How you will help us create value together:

As aSMART Manufacturing Engineering Intern, you will be responsible for a range of support activities for the Technical Services Group within Operations. This role will require support for development, integration and validation of applications and processes that impact the daily operations of an active discrete manufacturing plant. This role will work with a focus on transforming the manufacturing operations to integrate digital technology.

This position will be based onsite at our South Harbor location in Milwaukee's Harbor District! The target start date for this role is Summer 2025 and has potential to be extended into the Fall 2025 school semester. We offer full-time hours during the summer and flexible part-time hours during the academic year.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Understand Key applications for the business and serve as liaison to subject matter experts
  • Support development/build/configuration and work with Komatsu and vendor resources to develop applications supporting business objectives
  • Work with Komatsu and vendors to support Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) targeted applications; industrial Programable Logic Controls (PLC) and support equipment
  • Document processes and procedures for deployment of new applications/interface developed to support operations
  • Validate and manage integration between Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and SAP architecture; define discrepancies and manage solution implementation.

Basic Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor's or advanced degree in Engineering, MIS or Management, or similar, from an accredited college or university
  • Junior, Senior, or master's level student in good academic standing
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team towards a goal
  • Excellent organization and personal time management skills, ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess effective problem solving and critical thinking skills; ability to be creative and resourceful when needed
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite products (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to adapt the evolving technology landscape and implement solutions in an operating factory
  • Team player with exceptional customer service skills. Requires strong attention to detail and analytical skills as well as problem analysis and resolution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous classroom and/or work experience in one or more of the following areas: (Industrial automation, Data and information management, statistics)
  • Interest in or aptitude to learn about careers in the heavy equipment industry
  • Ability to understand and adapt to disparate systems
  • Technically astute and capable of expertise-based problem solving
  • High attention to detail and commitment to produce high quality outputs
  • Ability to make decisions based on accepted standards, policies and procedures
  • An effective independent worker with the ability to function with a high functioning multidisciplinary team
