Johns Hopkins University is seeking a curious individual with excellent organization and time management skills to serve as Associate Director for Undergraduate Academic Advising in the Office of Engineering Advising in the Whiting School of Engineering (WSE). The Office Engineering Advising (OEA), located on the beautiful Homewood campus in north Baltimore, Maryland, supports the WSE mission to prepare undergraduates to be 21st century leaders by providing an outstanding engineering education and enabling undergraduates to participate fully in the research and translational activities of the school. Our office provides academic support to all undergraduate engineering students and coordinates the undergraduate faculty mentoring program. The successful candidate will assume this role at an exciting time as the Whiting School of Engineering is reimagining undergraduate academic advising, faculty mentoring, and academic advisor development. In addition to managing an advising caseload, the Associate Director will design and implement interventions specific to WSE Office of Engineering Advising. This will include oversight of processes or procedures that contribute to undergraduate student or staff development and engagement, retention, and satisfaction under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Academic Advising. Associate Directors work collaboratively with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Academic Advising to provide leadership and vision in the strategic development of the Office of Engineering Advising's staff-facing and student-facing work. Associate Directors manage daily program operations; contribute to the development of program policies/procedures; maintain strategic campus partnerships; and train, directly supervise, and support assistant directors and professional academic advising staff. Associate Directors oversee processes critical to the operations of the Office of Engineering Advising (i.e., academic standing, academic reinstatement, advising systems and technologies, advising workflows, student engagement, and evaluation and assessment). In addition, Associate Directors manage special projects and supervise tasks that contribute to efforts supporting undergraduate students and advising staff engagement and development. Associate Directors report to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Academic Advising; oversight from other Directors and Assistant or Associate Deans may vary depending upon the nature of their projects. This position is hybrid, requiring three days in the office and two days working from home during the fall and spring semesters, and remote for up to 10-weeks in the summer. During critical times in the academic cycle, this hybrid schedule may be interrupted. Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Supervision (30%)
- Establish clear expectations, monitor progress, and provide constructive feedback to ensure high-quality work. Address challenges proactively and facilitate problem-solving to maintain efficiency and effectiveness.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to professional staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
- Manage and oversee staff-led projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and timelines. Delegate responsibilities effectively while providing the necessary support and resources for successful project execution.
Administration (40%)
- Serve on Undergraduate Academic Advising Leadership Team.
- Oversee implementation of administrative policies and procedures critical to office operations.
- Develop and maintain strategic campus partnerships (i.e., SEAM, UIS, EDMS, OUR, SSEI, GEO, SDS, etc.)
- Manage multiple critical operational tasks (i.e., Academic Standing, Academic Reinstatement, Undergraduate Degree Clearance, New Student Onboarding, New Staff Onboarding, Student Engagement, Professional Development for Advising Staff, Evaluation and Assessment, Advising Technologies and Systems Maintenance, Undergraduate Academic Advising Learning Management Systems Maintenance, Undergraduate Academic Program Catalogue Maintenance, Website Maintenance, etc.)
- Conduct ongoing evaluations and assessments to ensure effectiveness of programs and services, and recommend and implement modifications as necessary.
- Coordinate ongoing training for academic advisors, and other academic department staff members on various advising policies, systems, and technologies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Advising (30%)
- Work with caseload of undergraduate students.
- Perform general advising duties and deal with academic issues affecting students (i.e., respond to policy inquiries, monitor academic progress, make decisions about issues of academic probation, academic suspension, and reinstatement).
- Manage registration process for caseload of students.
- Conduct graduation clearance in collaboration with the Registrar's Office, WSE academic departments, and the KSAS Office of Academic Advising.
- Support University's retention and graduation goals by supporting students on leaves of absence or academic suspension.
- Represent WSE UAA at University wide events, meetings, conferences, etc.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree required.
- Seven (7) years academic advising or other related experience.
- This position does not allow for education or experience substitutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing professional staff.
- Demonstrated expertise designing, implementing, and analyzing program evaluations and assessments to measure effectiveness, impact, and areas for improvement.
- Ability to synthesize data and provide actionable recommendations to enhance program outcomes via comprehensive reports, dashboards, and presentations that effectively communicate assessment results to leadership, faculty, and other stakeholders.
- Strong multicultural competency.
