JOB ANNOUNCEMENT BUDGET ANALYST The Chicago Office of Budget Management Number of Positions: 1 (Additional vacancies are possible pending budget approval) Annual Starting Salary: $60,684 Applications for this position will be accepted beginning 2-19-25 until 11:59pm CDT on 3-5-25 The Chicago Office of Budget and Management is seeking Budget Analysts to perform entry-level professional work supporting the preparation and administration of the City's annual budget. The Budget Analyst will work with a group of city departments to assist them with preparing their budgets, monitor budget to actual expenditures, assist with the hiring process, project vacancy salvage, assist with budget amendments, fund transfers, and make recommendations for process improvement. The Budget Analyst will also be asked to perform fiscal and programmatic analysis on departmental operations to help drive decision making around the department's annual budget appropriation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Evaluates routine budget requests from operating departments for the establishment of new positions and new or expanded programs and services. * Analyzes annual budget submissions from operating departments and recommends the allocation of funding based on spending caps, priorities, and departmental initiatives. * Assists departments in preparing budget estimates of proposed programs and services and equipment purchases. * Analyzes current and past spending practices and makes recommendations for budget appropriations. * Monitors the disbursement of departmental appropriations identifying problems and recommending budgetary controls. * Approves or denies requests for fund transfers between accounts, ensuring account balances are sufficient to meet financial obligations. * Participates in evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of city programs and recommends changes where needed. * Prepares status reports on budgetary activities and special projects. * May assist in gathering cost information from operating departments applying for emergency or supplemental grant funding. * Attends meetings related to contracts, personnel management, system reforms, and supporting analysis * Collaborates with the Department of Law, Department of Finance and other city departments and agencies Additional duties may be required for this position Location: 121 N. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science, Finance, Economics, or a directly related field.
