Senior Buyer (Supply Chain Complex Electrical Assemblies)


Position Profile:

This position is responsible for all tasks relative to the scheduling and purchasing of materials that are required to support development work within the business unit. These activities include, but are not limited to, managing work orders to support MRP and non MRP requirements, follow through on all orders including nonconforming material matters and the timely and accurate processing, follow up, and rescheduling. This position requires the ability to interpret engineering drawings, including understanding of object dimensions, geometry, and tolerances.


Minimum Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree OR 4 years of relevant Purchasing experience.
  • Minimum 4 years planning, scheduling and purchasing make-to-print machined parts, COTS parts, and make-to-specification electro-mechanical components, and related special process / outside services such as finish plating, painting and testing
  • Experience with supporting production or development cells
  • Knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing principles
  • Working knowledge of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems, planning and scheduling activities
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills required for multi-faceted interactions with all levels of personnel within the organization, as well as any and all outside agents, including but not limited to, vendors, suppliers, customers, etc.
  • Strong computer literacy, with MS Office/PC expertise, and demonstrated experience with applicable systems, programs, equipment, etc.
  • Must be a US Citizen



Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities:


  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, including understanding of object dimensions, geometry, and tolerance to facilitate negotiation with suppliers.
  • Implement a process for requisition, order placement, and order tracking for development material on multiple programs within the business unit.
  • Plan and schedule work orders for in-house product assembly and test activities.
  • Responsible to perform all data entry required to generate and maintain requisitions and purchase orders, confirm supplier purchase order acknowledgement, and management of open orders
  • Solicit and analyze quotes from suppliers for wide variety of services and commodities in support of development.
  • Recommend suppliers based on cost, quality and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
  • Manage component shortages to resolution, lead issue resolution when products are behind schedule or at risk of being behind schedule, expedite material for development.
  • Interface with program management, manufacturing, engineering, quality, purchasing and management to provide timely status of work products and / or problem identification and resolution for non-conforming material.

  • Actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc. and support actions to drive company initiatives/goals.
  • Assist in the training of personnel to perform required technical tasks (as directed).

  • Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
  • Ensure that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  • Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required.

Work Environment:


  • This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing and foot protection (as required).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/machine shop environment, including, but not limited to: fluids, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise and vibration
  • Temperature of work environment may be affected by outside/external temperatures, machining processes, etc.
  • Domestic travel to select vendors is expected for this position (less than 10% of time)



Physical Requirements:


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Vision and color vision must pass job-required vision screening


  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel
  • The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, or crouch, and move about the facility.
  • The employee may be required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 25 pounds.


This position is at our Parsippany, NJ office location.
